iPhone ac-to-usb adapter and passthrough

Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone has tried an iphone ac adapter (which has the USB port for the iphone charging cable) in conjunction with a usb passthrough for a 510.

I found a thread discussing using the iphone ac adapter for charging eGo batteries, but haven't found any information about using it with a passthrough, other than some notes that passthroughs require more mA than chargers generally.

Thought maybe I should ask before plugging it in and possibly either destroying the passthrough or electrocuting myself.

Check the supply. If it doesn't say at least 1500 mA (1.5A) output, and preferably 2000 mA, don't bother.

(as a phone, it is likely only 1000 mA or so)

I dont know about the passthrough but i lost the charging cord for my pcc and just used an old iphone wall adapter with a standard usb to charge it. have had no problems so far.

I use the charger for my htc mytouch all the time. I plugged a usb bus into it so I can charge batts the phone and vape on it.

Pcc charging is different. For a straight pt, you need I = v/r, v is 5volts, r is your atty or carto resistance.

If your pt has a battery, that is different. Then it's really just a battery charger, 500 ma or so is plenty.

I'm not sure about the resistance of my atomizer, nor am I sure about what the passthrough requires or can take. I bought cheap, and it didn't come with any documentation.

Worst case scenario, is it likely i'll damage the passthrough or charger, or would it just not work... since it sounds like the passthrough might need and be able to take more juice than the adapter can kick out?

The output for the wall adapter that came with my iPhone 3GS shows 5V and 1.0A. This was not sufficient for a Piper VV pass-through. The PT did work on my car adapter (5V, 1500mA)

Yeah, tho even 1.5a is marginal. With 2000 mA, you should still use 2.5 ohm or greater resistance, to stay within spec on the ps.

It works for me. I'm using a ego passthrough though.

By ego passthrough, I expect you mean a sit and go, built in battery, you are actually vaping 3.2v, not true pt 5v.

(the usb is just powering the "pt" battery charger part, not true 5v pt to the atty/carto)

Yes, that is an inline battery "pt", not a simple, true, pt. The usb is driving the charger.

Thats kinda similar to what I have, which is this: USB Passthrough for Joye 510 Electronic Cigarette

It has a rechargeable battery "inside" it, so I guess even if its not getting enough through the adapter, it should still work. Think I'll give it a shot. If I never post again, you can assume it didn't go well

With inline battery, even a couple hundred ma is fine, no problem.
