I ordered a USB Passthrough, received it before my Joye 510, and used it for a few days when the 510 arrived. Now it's fried, along with one of my 510 attys
It worked fine on my USB port at work, but not on my MacBook at home (drew too much power, and Mac OS disabled the USB port). So I used a USB-to-AC adapted (the one that came with my iPhone), and that worked great.
In my car, it didn't hit worth s***. Although the LED would light up, I only got a tiny bit of vapor off the atomizer. I figured USB-to-DC plug I used put out slightly less power than the passthrough needed to work effectively. I figured, "well, if I crank up the output, the passthrough will work better." If 5v is the stock, maybe I can get a 7v DC adapter (with proper wiring and USB port), and I'll be making super clouds of vapor!
Big mistake! First off, some sort of dyslexia kicked in and I got a 12V, 7A adapter thinking it was 7V. I also failed to heed the proper amperage requirements as well (1A would have been pushing it, but 7A!). I hooked up my rig and connected the passthrough along with an atty. I heard the atty sizzle (without pressing the passthrough switch), then nothing. The LED on the passthrough no longer worked, and when I hooked the atty to my battery, it was cold as a dead fish. Ka-put.
Thankfully, Radio Shack gave me a refund on the parts I bought
My atty and passthrough, that's a different story
