cant forget those people who 'stealth vape' on planes though. It's difficult to enforce rules when people break em.
Seems as though stealth vaping would be safer since the PV would be in the hand the whole time  Any overheating would be noticed Before it got to the point of causing a fire....

Just my thoughts....

one would think, but then there are these people with facial injuries from their mods blowing up in their face  youd think theyd throw the mod or bring it away from their face before the inevitable kaboom. most recently being discussed is also a 'malfunction' of a mod causing it to explode. I also remember reading some threads about a new mod that was released to the public, but malfunctioned and was recalled i think, because it was causing fires within the mod. Which mods should airlines ban in that case? Just certain ones? or all of them?

If you are referencing the FB thing..... There are some serious doubts about that incident being raised. It just doesn't quite fit what happens when a mod goes. Unfortunately, there may be some background on the person's state of mind just previous to the 'incident'.

Sad either way :(

yeah, i was looking into that also. There seems to be some evidence. im not completely sure about that one, but i do think since mods are unregulated there may be some looking into. I edited my last post i think while u were replying. But about the recalled mods malfunctioning. Would there be a possible way to deal with that? it seems that since mods are wholly unregulated, releasing a mod to the public that may malfunction has a high possibility.

Airline approved vaping gear anyone?

I agree. In a perfect world, people would be bright enough to travel with ecigs that they know won't cause any problems. Or disable them, if possible, so there are no chances of an unfortunate incident.

Who knows? It may come down to approved vaping gear. More regulations....just what we all want. Not.

If it does come down to Approved Gear, I can see them going more the way of being able to remove the battery.

I am hoping that in this case it was just an over zealous airport worker and that it doesn't become a trend. We all know how quickly the rules can change.
Apparently not in the case of LIAT flights out of Tortola. Other security staff on different Islands do not have the same policy as the BVI from what I've been able to dig up thus far.

Who knows, I just wished people did more research and stayed safe, rather than venturing into the wilderness and causing more regulation due to not being well-informed, but ya cant trust everyone to edumacate themselves. Hopefully it doesnt get too far where people who travel alot cant even transport their mods with them.

I'm really surprised they were actually confiscated. In my experience items that are harmless in themselves but not allowed inside the cabin are usually seal wrapped by the airline and returned to you upon arrival. Things may have changed though and different airlines have different policies. Unless your e-cigs are declared prohibited by the airline and the consequences of carrying them on board are specifically stated I would say that taking them from you would be illegal.

Sorry to heat about your Delimma................

However, the FAA and other Aviation control agencies World Wide have Prohibited Shipping Lithium Batteries for several years now.
Checked baggage is equal to shipping.
MVP is a lithium battery based Mod.

The problem is not Firing, the Problem is possible Expansion failure under possible decompression.

Technically your MPV should have been an acceptable protection container, however many Airline companies do not try to split hairs with regulations.

Always check with your carrier before transporting anything questionable.

*** Also note - Customs is customs, not your airline. While they work in unison, they are separate entities.

I dare say that here in this region islanders in positions of responsibility can tend to be over zealous in the execution of their work at one end of the scale or, extremely relaxed about it at the other end! The BVI is known for over zealous officials. The carrier does seem to be aware of this as they state on their website:

"Meanwhile, LIAT noted that airport security in the territories in which it operates have not yet confirmed a unified stance on the carriage of e-cigarettes in carry-on baggage. It is therefore recommended passengers should not carry e-cigarettes in their cabin baggage either, so they don't lose their devices if the airport security decide to remove them."

Which is why we stress, to those who ask, batteries go in carry on luggage. This has been in place for a long time now.

Nice that you found that! Thank you. I'm going to bookmark it for when the next thread that comes around and asks about flying and how to transport their ecig. :)
Yes, but lately some companies have been blaming plane crashes like the Swiss one to batteries in the compartment. I think two or three batteries wouldn't cause such a mess. Just in case I suggest carrying them in hand luggage in lipo bags

perhaps I could be so bold as to suggest maybe the airlines organizations could be provided with a "duty to accommodate" letter of some sort and provide some sort of safe mechanism box , holder method etc if flying with these contraptions would in any way cause an issue a sort of spin off start up company for someone much more knowledgeable than I They provide cages for pooches and other assorted creatures. in an area where I live I can choose specific airlines but of course some people don't have a choice of who they fly with. just a thought
re the confiscated gear I am sorry to hear and hope the situation is rectified

If BVI customs took your Mod, I would have thought BVI must have declared e-cigs illegal?

Customs tend to have their own agenda, which is following the law of the land, and not airline policy.

If the airline refuses to take Mods in either checked or hand luggage to BVI, this could be in direct response to BVI having banned e-cigs? Just speculation I have no info on this.

A great many international carriers reacted to the FAA guidelines and also banned Mods from checked luggage. To the best of my knowledge they all allow mods in carry on.

While the FAA guidelines were reportedly imposed after a spate of minor cargo hold fires supposedly caused by mech mods, the ban still feels like an over reaction. Still those stupid enough to leave the batteries in their mech mods when packing them in hold luggage are equally to blame.

maybe the TSA person vapes and liked your mods...... I had a solid gold Zippo lighter taken from me by a TSA... but I was allowed to bring the Bic onto the plane.... go figger...

I think you are both on to something here:rules:

That sounds to be about right in this instance. The airline site states that: it is "recommended" not to bring them in carry on bags and that Custom's might remove them.

Sounds like they can't get any gear by any other mean's. I just want to note that I had zero problem bringing them in and security was non-existent. Those Custom's officers probably are enjoying them, I sure hope so.

At least, for the moment, this is the exception and not the rule:(
