ok. So I managed to get another friend to try to make the switch from analogs. He has the ipv mini and I clear tank. I am not to familiar with this and he is asking me all sorts of questions on it. I have referred him to the forum but any info I could give him would be helpful. Can someone give me the rundown on this setup?

Don't know the topper so I can recommend settings. Friend should be made aware of the PWM -DC/DC Modes as that effects operation at lower wattage. The manual covers function changes.
well the I clear isn't all that great of a tank... but its a start. they come normally with a 2.1 ohm dual coil
the IPV mini is a great little device, V1 is 30 watts, V2 is 70 watts.... doesn't matter really which he has they work the same
since he's using an i clear keep the IPV in PWM mode and do the wattage around 7-10 to start out for that

No, they do not work the same.
70w is much more powerful and has NO Buck circuit(PWM Mode)
30w can easily regulate down to 5w
