Hey all,

So lets say I am going to get my hands on a ipvd2 with a billow v2.

I've read a lot of threads in this forum.

I need some advise. What coil and cotton should I use? I'm not sure what size and material coil I should be using.

And also I don't fully grasp what the ohm means. The higher the better or the lower the better? Or is there a certain number?

Sorry if the answers to my questions are somewhere in this forum which I have not discovered or do not quite understand.

Thank you in advance!

First off, Basic electrical theory:
Voltage (V)= Current (I) x Resistance (R Ohm Ω)
I = V/R
Power (Watts) = IV
For unregulated devices, voltage is constant. If u lower the resistance, the current draw is higher, more power is supplied.

Resistance/Ohm

For regulated devices like the ipvd2 (Somebody gonna ask you what not the newer ipvd3 ;p), I feel that u do not need to go low resistance/ohm to get more power. This is because you can adjust the power (aka watts). Higher the power (watts), hotter the coil gets.
Do remember GENERALLY for simple coils, lower resistance/ohm coil need more power than a higher resistance coil to create the same heat.

Wires
With reference to the most common wire Kanthal A1.
Lower the gauge, thicker the wires.
Thicker the wires, lower the resistances.

Eg. 24G Kanthal at 6 wraps will have lower resistance than 28G Kanthal at 6 wraps.

My recommendation:
Start with 28G Kanthal, do 8 wraps with diameter of 3mm and fire at 35watts. For me, this is safe and efficient build (I am using 28G Kanthal with 9 wraps now).
Since you are new and I assume u want to build your own coil, you might run into wicking issue at the start. So stick to the basic coil first and get your wicking correct.

Cause most of the time, wicking is the main issue for beginners.

I am not familiar with the billow v2, so I cant advice how to wick it correctly.
