Last night RTE our state broadcaster covered the e-cig debate on Prime Time. As the programs name suggests it's the main current affairs show and carries weight with it's audience. I'm including a link to the rte player, duno if its available in your area but their are ways and means :vapor:

The usual stuff but this time someone at RTE invited Clive Bates and he was excellent at presenting the pro e-cig argument. So much so that the representative of the pharmacy union referred to 'his friends in the tobacco industry'. Way to demonstrait his lack of knowledge or his training in media manipulation.
The other guest was Kathleen O Meara head of the cancer society she knew little and has no idea other than what came to her from the antz crib sheet.

Comments on the video. In the first portion, we get all the we just don't knows and the no long term testing and no proof that they aid in smoking cessation.

I laughed at the young man who tried them, but statyed that after a couple weeks you develop a cough. Did he ever think that perhaps the cough was from his lungs working to clear out the smoking junk in his lungs?

Clive made the statement that everyone should use when hit with the long term effects. We won't know the effects 50 years from now until 50 years has past but we do know more about what's in these products than we know about whay's in cigarettes themselves. Brilliant!

As stated, the lady ANTZ used all the ANTZ buzz lines, but was put down very successfully by Clive and he gave a very good picture os, as he said. the "journey" from smoking to vaping and allowing people to take that journey in a way that works for them. Again brilliant!

Finally as Clive spoke on who was getting hurt by the e cig movement, both BP and BT, both the idiots shook their heads and we got the whole, "the tobacco companies have never been concerned with public health and the tobacco companies have the money to run clinical trials. First, I could say that public health has had no interest in public health either. For decades, they have supported the notion and graphic warnings that smokeless tobacco is "not a safe alternative to smoking" which is as close to a lie as you can get without it being an outright lie. Had they stated smokeless tobacco is only 9x% safer, fine. However, the wording convinced everyone along with the sales pitch that it led to oral cancer with jaws falling off that smokeless tobacco was worse than smoking which is in fact a huge lie by omission.

Finally saying the tobacco companies can do clinical trials is a straw man. Of course they can run clinical trials, but they're not selling a medicine and they aren't the pharma industry. Are clinical trials being done on any other consumer product? What clinical trials have been done on energy drinks with heavy doses of caffeine. I've seen people get sick ODing on too much Red Bull and other high caffeine drinks, but like nicotine, do much leads to expulsion and the body rejects it. However no other product threatens the bottom line of BP and Big Health like this movement has.
