Yes, wicking problems can cause dry hits.......... Usually if the wicking is getting saturated with juice properly then dry hits are usually not a problem. When wicks do not get enough ejuice then they produce dry hits. On some atomizers with small juice holes the liquid cannot get to the coil fast enough between each hit and then you end up getting a dry hit. Another thing is when people us high VG ejuice...... If you try a thinner juice with less VG then this will help.

Has anyone ever drilled out their wicking holes on any Atties to solve this?
yup - ended up drilling all of my old style kanger rbas on my drill press - made a huge difference - but the new rba+ is a big step up - nice big wicking holes!

i believe i originally used a 5/64" bit, and do like the the fact that the wicking channels on the bottom of the deck allow a little additional juice flow (those channels are not on the rba+) - may go back and enlarge those holes a bit with the dremel at some point :)

I have 0 experience with power tools. So drilling is a big nono for me. Hopefully the RBA plus works well like AXIOM says :D. Thought I just rebuilt my coils and idk if its just luck but I poked some holes in the cotton wick with a needle and it seems to work better now. (No dry hits so far).
and typically, wicking is a little finicky on the kanger rbas (both old and new school) - little bit of a learning curve to get the 'right' amount of cotton in and make sure it is positioned to cover wicking holes, but once you get it figured out, you will be able to rewick those suckers quickly with minimal issues

I just bought a mark bugs gem atty and am really disappointed with it so far due to poor wicking, I've tried a load of combos in it and just can't get it right so I'm back to the sub tank nano which is flawless, I just can't understand why something which I think costs a fair chunk of money can be so flawed, or maybe it's just me, when comparing the subtank coils the wick holes are twice the size so I think the drill is a coming soon, just abit reluctant as I guess a lot of r&d goes into these before they are for sale but I've seen a lot more folk have the same issues as me so I know I'm not alone. I'm just abit gutted really as I wanted this to last a fair amount of time. Thoughts anyone?

That's a big problem in the market right now. It's sort of flooded with new devices. Everyone's getting out their CNC machines to draft up some new mech mods and whatnot. The negative side(s) to this? The price is high because people are paying a premium to manufacture their devices. In order to make up for the labor/development/materials, they have to charge more. If the process were more streamlined (ie: these were being made on a factory line rather than hand-made) the end product would have a cheaper retail value.

Not only this, the R&D is a bit lackluster, and because these are usually hand-made/hand-QC'd, the failure rate is shockingly high.

Just to point out.. The first cars sucked also.. The industry survived. Vaping is a new industry, and for the most part there is NO standard way of vaping. I'm sure vape gear will be ade just like you want it in the future.. Probably around the same time. The only makers of Vape gear move manufacturing to other countries.. Like all of our other favorite industries.

Kinda hard to build what the common vaper wants when even the common Vaper, is too new to vaping to know what a common vaper wants, needs or even likes.
