Is a Provari good for a first mod?

Provari have a very strong reputation among US vapers, so I doubt you'd be making a mistake.
Honestly, I would tell you to try an istick or an MVP first... both are about 1/8th the price of a provari.
Provari makes an amazing product, if money is no object... then sure, pull the trigger without delay.
I have one that sits in a drawer. It does not provide the wattage I need, or work with sub ohm tanks and RDAs. If I would have waited a few weeks I probably would have realized I didnt really have a need for one.

I personally prefer the box mod style, but they both do the same thing (obviously some have higer power functions etc)
I just picked up a brand new cloupor mini 30 watt box mod yesterday. It is tiny, and can run my atlantis sub ohm tank beautifully!
I would definitely make sure that whatever mod you want, make sure it will cover you for all your vaping needs.
Bear in mind that the P3 only goes up to 20 watts, which is fine for most clearomisers and higher resistance rebuildables. But if you think you will be looking into sub ohm vaping in the future, then the P3 isn't really built for it.

Provari was my first good mod that I got after moving on from ego battery starter kits. I think it is an excellent choice. They are well known for quality and will last. It will also allow you to upgrade as you progress in vaping. You can start with a carto or clearo tank then, if you want, move on to rebuildable tanks like kayfun or any genesis style.
Hehe absolutely, mine has taken some nasty falls and is still working flawlessly. Oh yeah and I was thinking about those new isticks. People seem to like them and they are neat I must say. But personally them not having replaceable batteries is a deal breaker for me. A rechargeable battery will only charge so many times before they begin to die out. I dont know their life expectancy but personally a built in battery is not for me.
If your looking for built-in protection circuitry both DNA and RDNA as well as the sx330 chip far exceed the P3 in performance and adaptability.

Looking at a Provari in terms of a watt per dollar ratio is an interesting concept. One that completely misses most of the point of a Provari, but an interesting one none the less.
As others have mentioned, there are much more powerful devices out there for a lot less money.
Some advantages to buying a Provari would be build quality, warranty, accuracy, safety and after sales service. I have one, I don't use it much, but I am glad I bought it.
Some disadvantages are price point (for some) and lack of power if you want more than 20 watts.
So only you can make the decision if the Provari is right for you.
As a first mod I would actually say probably not. What happens if you spend $250 on it and dislike vaping? Maybe follow some of the advice on this thread and look at another set up until you are sure you like vaping, then do a little more research and comparisons and then make a decision.
Finally I'll say that few who buy a Provari regret the purchase. Those that do are able to resell it for about 95% of its value so the risk is low.
nc, you'll get lots of opinions. Here's mine...and I had the exact same setup as you (X6 and PT2) until about two months ago :
1. If you are not already rebuilding your Protank 2 coils, give it a go. it takes a bit but easily doubled my satisfaction of the Protank performance. I wrap microcoils and use Ko Gen Doh organic Japanese cotton wick now. Man, flavor and vapor production is 100% better than stock PT2 coils. Give this a go before changing tanks at all. It will get you used to rebuilding coils and eventually give you the confidence to build on almost any rebuildable atomizer. There is tons of information in the forum on tensioned microcoils for the Protank. Search Protank microcoil discussion if interested.
2. I have not owned a P3, but it is a well respected device for the reasons already mentioned. That said, it is an investment and the options for variable voltage/ wattage devices is mind blowing right now. I have an eleaf istick and love it, but it's already been far surpassed at the $50 price point by other devices. I currently really like the look of the ipv mini 30W.
I personally think that $200 or more is over priced for any device. I also struggle with the concept of vaping at more than 30 watts, but that's me. Right now, for 40 - $60 you can get a lot of devices that will do the same thing as a Provari, but maybe they don't carry the same reputation or warranty. I for one would take a shot on a $50 device because in 6 months, that will also be outdated and there will be devices doing even more for less $.
I stopped in the local vape shop to day and got another idea. They showed me the xpro m50. It seems to be basically what I'm looking for. The mod and a Atlantis tank for $130.
Not a bad idea. is that with two battery's ? I've seen them online from 55.00 to 60.00 for the mod and the tank for 32.00
You can grab some good 20 amp high drain batteries for 6.00 a piece and get a good charger for 20.00

I got a MVP 2.0 first then I realized i did not have enough power for my needs so I loved the MVP 2.0 and got the MVP 20 Watt its like 40 bucks with shipping and it does everything I want . I can run my tanks off it , and i have started dripping it has plenty of power to run 1 ohm loads at 20 watts if I wish. It takes care of all my needs and is super easy to use at 38.00 bucks Id go for an MVP 20 w in a heartbeat. Why spend more money than you need to when you are learning. I will probably get another box mod in the future way out there future something like a 100watt box mod who knows .
