Is ECF killing my browser?

Its a funny thing. I have been trolling ECF at work mostly, on a Windows 7 machine using Firefox and it seems that every browsing session gets locked up. I literally have for force quit Firefox via task manager then restart to get the browser to work again. I do notice that when this happens Firefox is using a ton of RAM.
I thought this to be a Windows/Firefox issue but the same thing happened last night while I was using my iPad. After about 20 minutes on ECF the browser was locked up and I had to quit Safari to get it to load new pages.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Me too! I thought it was just me since my tech loaded my notebook to the hilt w/firewalls and such. I wonder what it is.

I use xp and google no problems. i also use windows 7 and IE and have not had any problems like you describe.

right click on a blank area on the top bar and select menu bar then go to help and click restart with add-ons disabled firefox will close and a little box will popup put a check mark in everything but delete bookmarks, this will reset the browser and hopefully fix your issue. then go to here |MG| Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.60.0.1800 Download download and run malwarebytes see if it finds any garbage.

I use chrome on Win7 and never have a problem with ECF. I generally have anywhere from 1-20 tabs open at a time.

I know firefox has some pretty large memory leaks, maybe that could be your issue.

Using WinXp and no problems and when I switch to my other pc/ Windows7 no problems. Also no problems on my Iphone.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I restarted Firefox without any add-ons so we'll see what happens. It still puzzles me that I got the same issue on my Windows machine and my iPad.

if its on everything maybe power cycle you network router first then modem, plug modem back wait for the lights and then plug in then router. worth a try. if you know all this I don't mean to talk down on you it's just my job most of my customers aren't very good with computers please take no offense

No offense taken kabonk, and I do appreciate the advice. I understand what you mean about resetting the router, but this has happened at two completely different locations; at work on my PC and at home on the iPad. go figure...

Sorry man but in this case the router will have absolutely nothing to do with his issue.

Your issue probably has something to do with a memory leak in firefox or a random plugin going haywire.

There isn't much flash on ECF so that's more than likely not the issue.

I browse ECF with google chrome on a XP, Vista and 7 and never had any problems.

Well, it happened once again even after disabling all of the Firefox add-ons. Using IE now, lets see what happens.

It probably isn't a forum issue, I spend a ......ed amount of hours on ECF using Firefox with no issues. Have you tried using one of the Maintenance addons to Firefox? A couple of versions ago I had issues and ran the places maintenance plugin and things were noticeably better with Firefox, haven't had an issue with it since.

Had no problems with IE so I may just stick that browser while I am at work. Chrome on my Mac at home seems to be doing fine as well. I am sure it is some sort of memory leak or maybe a bad Firefox extension. I don't have much of a choice at work but if IE works well enough I will just continue with it. I browse with Firefox on Win 7. Sometimes my browsing gets slow, and then I use ccleaner. It is free and should take care of your problems. Hope that helps.

IE will eventually slow your system down with all the garbage it saves in the background !!!

firefox with adblock plus,no script and betterprivacy,,never had a problem with ECF,even when they added all those fb,google and other icons at the top of the home page

I surf the forum and net with google chrome and use a blocking software called Peer Block you can visit sites that have pop ups and that software will block it, if you go to a site you know is safe but PB blocks it you can hover over the icon in task bar and click allow for 15 min. and go right on the site.

Windows Vista (yes yes I know) with alot of personal tweaks, mostly turning things off. I use google chrome (best browser evaar) and never had an issue with ECF despite having more than 25 tabs open sometimes. As far as security I only use AVG Free for my active antivirus, windows firewall, and I use malwarebytes to run scans every few days. Also guys, I know this isn't the right place to make suggestions, but I HIGHLY recommend downloading a program from Cnet.com called Advanced System Care (free version). It's and amazing little utility that performs many menial tasks that most of the more advanced pc users perform manually. Massive time saver and for those that don't have a ton of knowledge in the PC world it will improve your Computers performance. Best of luck and vape on!
