It was announced a while back that it was to be turned into an area that only verified members can see and post in. I guess that became effective today.

I always liked looking through the classified threads, but since I don't PayPal or ebay, I guess I'm out. I could have other members vouch for me, but I don't want to put that on someone else. Sucks in a way, but oh well.

I do not have a paypal account, I do not use ebay as it requires a paypal account, I will not pay someone to check me out to verify me. and even though I Know a few people on here I do not want them vouching for me. Just because I do not have the information stating I am a verified member does not mean I am a cheat. You should make it so only people putting on the co-op or the people selling items need to be verified.

When it goes that far then something has to be done, no matter how painful it is. People can choose to take part or not, but at least now they have some chance they won't get ripped. This is how thieves affect everyone else's rights. Just the way life is.

While I agree with your decision to do this and realize the reasons, it still stinks for us people wishing to remain anonymous re: PayPal and ebay. I don't want you to change the rules or make exceptions, but I hope you don't mind if a few of us honest and decent people who are locked out gripe about it a bit.
Yes, I could sign up for PayPal or ebay, or even have some folks vouch for me, but I choose not to link my bank account to an entity I disagree with politically and whom I don't trust. Even though I have a few good friends here who would gladly verify me, I would never ask someone to put their reputation on the line for me - not my style.

By becoming Verified, you agree to provide information that can be used by law enforcement should you be found defrauding member(s). This in no way alleviates the the buyer/seller/trader from protecting themselves. You still must practice safe transactions by paying a little extra for tracking, delivery confirmation, insurance, and anything else available to protect yourself. The verification is only an extra measure in ensuring our members are protected and can conduct these transactions in a safe manner. To give you an idea of how it's working, before the change, I was receiving at least two fraud complaints a month, in fact Nov/Dec time frame there was one fraudulent transaction that took 3 or 4 members for over $1,000 combined. This probably was the main incident for pushing for such a change. Since the induction of the Verified Member process, there has been absolutely no fraud complaints, almost 6 months. The only complaints I've had have been minor issues such as slow shipping and some condition of device complaints, which have all been resolved.
The main purpose is to remove a members anonymity. When members are anonymous, fraud is much easier to commit and there is not much we can do on our end to help those that are defrauded. Now I know the Classified section is buyer beware and we don't have to do anything about your loss but if you just got swindled out of a couple hundred dollars, would you want me to reply "Sorry, there's nothing I can do" or would you rather me say "Ok, I've got their information on file, file a police report and provide me the information to contact the police, including a case number, and I'll contact them with the information I have"? I would rather hear the latter.
So you may not agree with the new system and that's ok but don't knock it, because it's working great so far. Will it prevent fraud from ever happening again? No, probably not but that's where the member comes into play, protect yourself, spend the extra to have those services I mentioned earlier. It's worth a few bucks to not lose $200. I'm sorry the methods we have available do not include everyone but we are always open to viable suggestions. Photocopy of license, birth certificate, utility bills, passport etc. are not viable, they can be easily manipulated. Maybe in combination with some other method, maybe it could be viable. On occasion I've been able to be a little flexible on some of the requirements or even the methods of verification. You may be able to be verified through other means but you have to contact me and discuss it.
For those who aren't happy, I'm sorry but if it were you money being stolen, you might have a different outlook. If you aren't worried about loss of money, then send me $500 for insurance, refundable upon becoming unverified, and I'll verify you to use the Classifieds.

Too bad; I got enough stuff hangin' out there in the breeze to be linkin' my paypal account to my bank account. Sure they tell ya it's protected but how many times have you heard about this corporation, business, or institution gettin' hacked?

If someone goes on ebay and there looking for lets say a zippo lighter for there collection they dont have to have an account to see whats for sale.If they want the zippo they can sign up for an account.Here you cant even see whats for sale.It would be nice if you could see whats for sale and if you wanted it you could get verified.The seller would get more views on his items.It would be nice if you could make a auction site just for ecigs but i dont know who you could take payments through. paypal is not very ecig friendly.
The Classifieds are just for Verified Members now, in order to minimize problems. We are sorry you don't want to take part there.
