It's never ever safe to charge a battery unattended. If the worst should happen, it would be good to be conscious so that if there's a fire, you can, at the very least, get out to safety!

Agreed. That goes for all batteries, cell phones, cordless phones, laptops, power tools, etc.

Agree with the above. Although some of the higher quality chargers claim over-discharge protection circuity, any electronic device can fail at any time. batteries & chargers in general should be considered unpredictable. A battery is most vulnerable to failure while charging, and statistics allegedly back that statement up. Don't risk your home or family by charging batteries unattended should a unfortunate incident occur, so appropriate action can immediately be taken.

Probably not a good idea but I bet most people do it. I would certainly not recommend it, but have done it and will more than likely do it again.

Seriously, who can hang around for 5 or six hours. Having an area for charging where there is nothing flammable around at all is a good idea if you are around or not.

I charge all my devices and batteries in the kitchen, which is where *I* am, 90% of the time I'm at home. And yeah, I have occasionally forgotten to unplug an iTaste before going to bed, and fortunately have had no catastrophes -- but it's not advisable, and every time I've come in here in the morning and seen the iTaste still plugged in, from overnight, I just cringe, and give myself *another* stern talking-to about making sure they're unplugged before I go to bed. Since apparently those are not IMRs, so they're less safe to start with. The removable batteries ARE IMRs, but I make sure to unplug their charger and remove them from it, before I go to bed -- mainly just because those batteries are mostly a lot more powerful (the 18490s and 18650s) than the iTastes.

But as a policy? Charging while they're not only unattended, but you're sound asleep, is a REALLY!!!!! bad idea. Being awakened suddenly is extremely disorienting, and disorientation isn't something anyone can afford when dealing with a fire.

My laptop, computer, phones, theater equipment, ego's, mod batteries, weed whacker, rechargeable batts for Wii controllers, tablets, Nintendo DS, and probably other things are all plugged in and charging all the time.

Again, just because you can doesn't mean you should. You do know that all of these devices continue to pull current while plugged into your wall outlet, right? Save on your energy costs by unplugging them when not in use.

Another vote for not leaving a battery charging unattended, especially when sleeping. What's the payoff -vs- the risk, really? Buy an extra battery or two so you don't have to take a risk would be my suggestion.

Exactly what I did -- I now have 3 iTaste vv3s, and when I get the new pair of AW 18350s, I'll have 10 removable batteries. At night I put fresh batteries in my Sigelei, Vamo, and Fallen Angel, and put the ones I take out on the shelf next to the charger; in the morning when I get up and come in here, I'll put them all in the charger while I'll getting breakfast ready. The 18490s and 18350s are usually done by the time breakfast is, and the 18650s just a bit later. That way if any of my 350s start getting down to low charge in the late afternoon, I'll have some charged ones to replace them with. The 490s are good for the whole day, the 650s sometimes nearly 2. The iTastes I generally plug in when they get to about 3.8 or 3.7, because I can keep using them while plugged in. Once I learned the potential risks from charging unattended, I decided that I really like the house we bought in 2011, so whatever I need to do to make sure it -- and we -- stay safe, that's just what I'll do.
