Is it the nicotine that's keeping me awake?

I've managed to stay off the analogs for a week now, but I'm really pounding the 36mg juice... and having trouble getting a decent night's sleep.

I'd like to move to a lower level, and have tried some, but the throat hit isn't the same...at least with the juices from my local vendor.
When I sample the various flavors there I feel absolutely no throat hit. The store guy says it's because there is no nicotine in the samples.

I'm not sure what the PG/VG percentage is on their juices, but I've heard that PG will provide more throat hit.

So yeah... I'm looking for a decent throat hit with a lower nic level. Any suggestions?

I've got an ego twist.
I'm still not sure exactly what delivery system I'm using - stardust somethings with the wicks that go in at the top - not the ones I can take apart - no clue what resistance, etc...

PG does provide the throat hit, VG gives more vapour.
Most pre-made eliquid tends to be around 80pg/20vg, but you can ask for different mix levels. Personally I DIY mix and use a 50/50 mix cos I like clouds of vapour and more flavour than loads of throat hit.

Anyway, I used to have the same problem sleeping, after hitting hard before bed. I know it's hard, but either stop vaping about an hour before bedtime or use a lower nicotine level. The nicotine takes longer for your body to absorb it when vaping comnpared to smoking. So you're probably going to bed with peak nicotine levels - not good for sleep

I would say yes. My neighbor got me starting vaping and she would use hers whenever she got the chance. I tried to use mine in the same fashion as I would an analog. I still found that 16mg was giving me the jitters and I was not sleeping well. I backed down to 11 or 12mg and that helped a ton. I'm on 6mg now and still get the jitters at times on the weekends especially first thing in the morning with a stout cup of coffee.

I'm not sure what else I can offer other than to try backing off on usage or back down on the nicotine.

Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in as well.

I concur... When I first started, High nic levels do affect your sleep!! Lot to do with blood pressure and chem stimulation in the brain. Trouble1000 has a very good advisement... Throughout the day, vape as you will!! I would like to add, Gets some lower nic juice and an

hour or so before bed.... Switch over to the lower nic and vape lite without chaining before bed!!

I know in my first week of giving up the analogs completely, and even now, a month later, on occasion, I will have a difficult time getting to sleep. This can be a side affect of quitting the analogs. I'm not sure about the nic level of the ejuice or really have any suggestions, so I am new to the forums and still learning myself what everything is and how it works. But again I did read that quitting the analogs can affect your sleeping habits.

I had the same problem when I started. Restless, jittery, crabby, and could not sleep. I started vaping at 16mg but was only smoking about 5-10 analogs per day of ultra lights. I reduced my nic level to 12 with no problems and then down to 6 where I remain. It is individual, but I would also suggest trying some lower nic juice and see if it helps. And the pg ratio does make a difference in throat hit, so maybe try a lower nic/higher pg juice that you already know you like? Just a suggestion, worked for me.

Thanks greebo for posting this thread! I have been having A LOT of trouble falling and staying asleep since I switched to vaping last week. I've also been having weird dreams and a lot of twilight dreams/sleep- don't know if this is a product of the nicotine or a product of the lack of sleep. I'm not a good sleeper to begin with so it's been pretty ugly for me this last week. If misery loves company, I'm right there with you!

give yourself some time.. it can take a few weeks for your body to get rid of the thousands of chemicals from analogs. had the same problem but after week 3.. it was much better.

3 weeks Boston?! Oh my Lord by that time they're just gonna have to lock me away! :)

I'm running on about 4 hours of sleep right now- not fun. My only saving grace is that tomorrow is my last day of school and I will have the summer to get used to vaping. Had I thought about it, I would have waited an extra week and a half and quit smoking the day after the end of the school year. But, I'm a week in now and there's no going back!

As a diagnosed insomniac (transient) I talked to my sleep doctors about taking in nicotine before going to sleep (when I was still a smoker, and once I quite and became a vaper). Since we're all wonderfully addicted to nicotine, the actual receptors in the brain that pick it up and produce secondary neurotransmitters will produce a sedative effects rather than a stimulant effect so long as you're not over-doing it on the consumption.

As the doctor said, taking in some nicotine before going to sleep isn't going to change anything, in fact it might calm you down a bit but chain smoking (vaping) is gonna get you nice a hyped up quickly. So, is it your nicotine that's keeping you awake? Maybe, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't be vaping before you go to sleep - just take it down to a lower nic level or vape a bit less.

Did you smoke Cigars?
36mg is way strong and definitely can interfere with sleep. Even 12mg can.
First thing you will need to do to be comfortable is convince yourself you do not need the jack hammer in the throat all the time.

Just a suggestion:
Least liked flavor you will vape=36mg for stressful times.
A decent all day vape in 24mg and 12mg - allows to mix proportions to reduce Nic as you go.
A Favorite flavor in 12mg for evening and go light at least 1 hr before bed.

Luckily vaping doesn't seem to have any effect on my sleep. I am an insomniac, but my problem is waking in the middle of the night and not being able to get back to sleep.

I'm not doubting any of you, but it seems strange that vaping keeps you awake. Did you ever have problems sleeping after smoking cigarettes in the past?

I had no problem getting to sleep when I was smoking analogs right before bed, in fact it seemed to help. So I'm not sure if it's withdraw due to the lack of the "x-factor", or an over consumption of nicotine...

Either way, dropping nic level before bed won't work for me if the vape feels "light"... and by that I mean no throat hit... I'm hoping to find a lower nic level big throat hit juice... But honestly, I can chain vape this 36mg and not feel lightheaded or sick...

I've also put in an order of some WTAs from aroma and they only had it in low/med nic levels, so we'll se what that's all about

I had a go with cigars for a while, but couldn't see the point of smoking something you don't inhale... And I would get pretty nauseous after inhaling cigar smoke, which I couldn't resist doing...
