If the resistance is between 2 to 5 Ohms it is not dead.
Since it gets hot it is not dead.
Needs cleaning.
Sometimes the gunk and slag is difficult to clean.
So many cleaning methods.

For example:

Soak in distilled water then blow out.
Soak in PGA/vodka then blow out.
Soak in vinegar then blow out.
Soak in H2O2 then dry burn; repeat.
Soak in polident then blow out.
Final rinse in PGA then blow out.

I have kept my atty going one year with H2O, PGA, H2O2. and occasional dry burn.

There are two schools of thought to this.

1. You simply have not found the right combination of cleaners to degunk your atomizer. Find atomizer cleaning threads, do some of the recommended cleaning. Spend a lot of time and money on products to get atomizer back up to peak performance.

2. Atomizers were meant to be disposable parts. If you've gotten 3 weeks of performance out of it - great. Now replace it.

While I will always try to clean an atomizer - denture cleaner, everclear, soda, etc., I have at least 5-10 spare atomizers on hand at all times. (Ever since I blew up 6 during a one week span, because of a bad battery.)

Good luck!

At first, I tried priming it with 1 drop after cleaning, then it started bubbling at me, and the next time I cleaned it, I did not prime it, It still produces vapor, just very little and absolutely no throat hit.

Just looked at your previous posts its over 3 weeks old they are not built to last forever and the throat hit definately drops off after a couple of weeks .

Kiss it goodbye and start using a new one :D

My m401 atty is dead, by all indications. Happened last Saturday. The night before I washed it under running tap water and let it dry overnight on a paper towel. Dipped it good the morning after, went about my business for the day, then pulled it out for some vaping action, hit it like some cool dude and voila! No vapor, no heating, nothing!

Check out my sig below for my atty's age at the time of death. Boohoo!

Do you mean it was working before the water cleaning and then not after. If so you aren't the first.

Might sound strange but if you've written it off as dead anyway.. put it in the pocket of a shirt or pair of pants (preferably one with a button or zipper to keep it in so its easily found afterward) and run it through the washing machine with your laundry. I did this once by mistake with a half dead atty (battery too.. but I don't advise that since the battery died) and after it came out (and i rinsed it to make sure there was no soap in it) it worked almost as good as new (id say it was at 85% of it's best production) the atty went on to last me another 3-4 weeks (I don't alternate attys.. use one til it goes belly up and pull out an unused one) before it died and I think that was a result of too many drops. Was working one second, dropped it, then it was dead. Maybe this will help you?

@Kent C: yes, it was working before the water cleaning. It was not the first time I cleaned it in this manner, either. Care to throw in some explanation behind the phenomenon? :)

@Ryle: worth trying, that. Will let you know how it goes.

Now that Ryle has mentioned drops as possible cause of death of the atty, I do remember dropping my ill-fated atty that Saturday. It was a good five-foot drop to a concrete floor. Memory is too hazy, though, as to what transpired between that and when I found out it was dead. Hmm.

I haven't used water but I've read where others have had instant death on it but others not. I think the problem with water has to do with not letting it dry completely out before 'restarting'. But just the fact that there are so many 'atty cleaning routines' tends to point that people really don't know what works. I'd advise not cleaning or reading the faqs on cleaning attys. lol

How did you clean it and how long did you let it dry?

I'm not sure what you cleaned it with, but it might very well not be dry yet.
I find that I have to let an atomizer dry for at least 24 hours before it will start working decently.

A quicker way to dry it would be to put it in the oven at 150 degrees for 20 minutes.
