I'm a newbie and have a volcano carto tube tank on a smoov 1300 mah vv rev bat. I use that step up at home and on my way to and from work. Today and yesterday about half way home as I was vaping away it started to taste like crap. I had the bat at 3.8 and I normally only take three or four puffs then set it down for a few before I vap again.

My carto is a 1.5 ohm so I was told. I was also told not to turn the bat above 4.2 with the 1.5 ohm carto. When it started to taste like crap I turned my bat down to 3.3 and hit it a couple times with no power and let it sit for 20 minutes. I just got this set up on Saturday and its the same carto in it when I got it.

What could be causing the crappy taste? Could the carto be going bad or do I have the bat up to high?

Hey, check this out. It helps a lot! image.jpg

You can always set your VW to 8w as a fail safe I think.

I think you probably already got your answer, but it does sound like you just had too much power going to your coil. I tend to like standard resistance atomizers and coils, but that's me. I tend to vape fruits and sweet juices, so a higher resistance keeps the flavor cooler, where as a tobacco juice might taste better warmer.

Remember this equation:

Voltage X Voltage / Ohms

If that equation lands you at a number from 8 to 9, which equates to watts,
you're in the "sweet spot".
Then, adjust your voltage up or down to taste.

I found my sweet spot just by taking a puff then adjusting the wattage. found my sweet spot to be 8.4 watts. Which on my 2.3ohm Protank = 4.39v. I plugged those numbers into your formula and came up with 8.37w. in short... IT WORKS!!:vapor:

Glad you found your "spot". :)
Remember, juices are different and will require experimentation.

Ok we'll I gave this a try today and didn't go above 3.6 it worked for a little bit but then the crappy taste came back. So I turned it down a little and it vaped fine for a bit then the crappy taste came back:mad:. So for now I have it at 3.3, the lowest my bat goes. It seems to be working and the crappy taste has gone away. I'm going to try some higher ohm carto's and see what happens. Thanks for the responses everybody.

What can I do to fix a wicking issue? I've only been using this tank for a week and vaping for three, so this is still new to me. The first time it happened my tank was about empty so I filled it and have been holding it so the hole is covered by juice, I thought that was the problem at first but then it happened again.
My guess would be that the carto filling is maybe getting a little clogged.
But really, that's only a wild guess.

Sorry, I can't be of more help but I'm a dripper and have never used a carto tank.
And I started dripping because I got tired of dealing with wicking issues.
:)

Hopefully others will have advice.

doesn't sound like it's a wicking issue since it's a volcano tube tank. you're not really working with wick that would get over powered and start tasting gross in that instance. does it taste burnt? i had a 1.5 dct carto that just tasted off all the time. that's about when i picked up a kanger protank. you could always try buying a higher ohmed carto and seeing if it's an isolated issue. they aren't too expensive if you're not quite ready to make the jump to a different type of distribution.

I have a 1300 mah vision spinner that i keep with me and that i love using with my evod bottom coil. the evod is cheap too! about 7-10 bucks, depending on where you get it. Not as big as those tube tanks but also pretty solid and not as expensive as going to something like a protank.
