Seems like everyone is talking about royal wire now. I was wondering if anyone has tested them and what their opinion is on them. Is it worth the extra money or is a1 kanthal good enough??

I have some 26 gauge and I love it. I'd say buy a few feet and decide for yourself. I only have 30 and 28 gauge Kanthal to compare to, so it is a major difference just having the thicker gauge. 6 wraps gives me .45 ohm, at the vape shop they built me a .3 ohm dual coil with around 8 wraps each. 5/64" drill bit. Lots of cotton. It comes with 3 organic cotton balls typically so you have a nice little play-kit to decide what you like.

The dual coils adding up to 0.3 ohm was great in California, I was vaping like a train...

Then I came back to my home state (Colorado) with high altitude, instant allergies, plutonium in the air...and built my own 0.45 ohm single coil on my Zenith V2 within a few days, as the 0.3 ohm is noticeably harder on me out here, I get bronchitis more easily, etc. Hmm.

It heats up so fast, you have to pulse it briefly when finding your hot spots, etc. Doesn't take long to squeeze it together, of course dropping the voltage immediately before tweezing it.

If you dry burn it continuously it has a better chance of "popping." I finally got a burnt hit the other day because I took a stupid-long draw. It hits you immediately, and that stupid-long draw probably put me in to the "let's go single coil" mood.

Being more malleable and lower resistance does make it more fun to play with in my book, but again, 26 gauge Kanthal is probably pretty darn close and I just need to compare it.
