Steeping is a funny thing. Bad juice will still taste bad after much steeping. But a good juice will change over time and the flavors will marry a bit more. Sometimes juice tastes better not steeped and you will not like it as much over time.

I think if a juice is delicate the steep will bring out flavors that are more in the background over time.

A bad bottle of wine will not get better if you let it sit for a year or two. I have had juice that I've hated get slightly better over time, but it's still not that great.

I think the key word here is "needs",everyones taste buds are different,so something one person thinks is great right away, may take a week or more before someone else thinks that same juice is great, just all depends on individual tastes. So whether it needs steeped or not would vary by the person.

Since you mentioned tobacco as an example, here is my own personal take on that. When i started making my own juice,i made tfa red type, tfa m-type,and a few others.I made several 30ml bottles of the red type over several months,as this was my adv at the time, i never let it steep, and thought it was great.M-type on the other hand was horrible when i made and still horrible after a very long 6 month steep haha.Point is,some people will say red type has to be steeped, but for me it was fine right after mixing every time.

A great example of bad steeped e juice would be watermelon and blueberry, banana, they become horrible after steeping, really really bad now this may vary depending on manufacturer but I have tried three different vendors and same resulting nasty fishy off tasting putrocity. I make 3ml bottles when I use those flavors..

I also was surprised by using a flavor that I dislike by itself asian ry4 also very nasty, but mix it with butterscotch and coffee and it becomes caramel a really good caramel.

But did you notice any difference between the freshly made Red Type and one that was old? That is what I am trying to find out.

IF you overmix m type yeah its bad 5% is very high, but when steeped its very good IMO. When you 1st mix it it is most definitely unvapeable lol and anything over 5% will remain unvapeable even just a lil over lol. Its one of my favorites after steeping..

Am red goes really bad too, its taste like a cough syrup medicine after a long steep, matter of fact it gives me headaches and I had issues sleeping when I used that flavor .. I know you didn't ask me but I am very familiar with am red.

I have tried every tobacco tfa/tpa makes and have steeped etc etc. Say no to the red IMO lol..

I never really noticed much change, but i never really let it get a real long steep,as i only made 30ml at a time and went through that in a week, although when i started trying other flavors,i did let a half bottle of red sit for about 2 weeks, and while there was a very slight change,it wasn't enough of a change to make it worth the wait.

Your not alone,i have read from several people that say m-type is really good, but it was definitely not my thing haha.Oh,and i never even went close to 5%,my mix was at 2% and it was way to strong.I just recently traded off the remaining flavoring i had from it,and like you,the guy i traded with said it was really good after he made some up.I thought about trying it again at a lower %,but i just couldn't bring myself to it,after trying it fresh and roughly 6 months steeped,my brain just wouldn't let me attempt it again haha.

Steeping is a pretty simple thing imo. Stuff changes over time. It's as simple as that. Sometimes the mix will taste great day 1, and awkward at day 20. Sometimes it's the other way around. Sometimes it's good at any point in time, and sometimes it's the other way around. Just taste-test things on day one, day 5, etc. and see how steeping effects your juices personally. There is no rule nor any facts regarding the methodology of steeping, as it's subjective and particular to each recipe out there.

I hate black licorice, do not see how people eat it. Yeah we individual indulge separately but many things we like together.. Like vaping, we like to vape but....

Yeah Am red starts out pretty good but still headache and sleep issues for me. Its the closest flavoring I have found to Njoys bold flavor and I absolutely love their flavor but whoa what happens to red when long steep is not pretty. lol

I definitely agree with you there, black licorice is one of the foulest things i have ever tasted haha.Is american red the same as the red type?I know they changed the names on a few things,so not sure if they are the same one or different.I found a half bottle of it still inthe cabinet from several months ago,i got away from the tobacco flavors about 4 months ago,but i'm half tempted to try it again just to see how much it has changed.
On the topic of steeping,i should have mentioned it earlier but i forgot.I definitely was not saying that no juice needs steeped,i have had several that had to sit for a while, just saying that not all need it,so like mentioned above, try it fresh, then every few days to see how it changes.I have also had the opposite as mentioned above,i had 2 that i made up that were great as soon as i mixed them, but going on the thought that steeping would make them better,i left them for 2 weeks. What i had when i went back to them was absolute nastiness haha,so i found out that those 2 do not work well with steeping, but on the other hand i have made a couple custard mixes that didn't really get great until 3-4 weeks after they were mixed. So definitely just depends on the juice,as well as your taste buds.

IME some mixes change radically with curing and I don't like them as much. That said, I always mix with curing in mind since I don't mix 5ml at a time for myself, so there's always going to be some in that bottle a couple weeks from when I make it, and when I give some to a friend I have no idea when he's going to use it.

I always think mixes are more matured after a dip in the UC and a couple of days' rest, but that's just me.

When steeping I am looking for accuracy to named mimic. An apple should taste like an apple not burnt plastic it begins as.
Thats my whole to steep methods brain pattern, of course flavor like red or m type, ry4, we have no idea what they are supposed to taste like until steeped or not if enjoyed fresh.

I mix quite a few flavors that need no steeping and some with steeping lose their rich flavoring and seem watered down. Sometimes a bonus with steeping, I get away with mixing flavors very low too...

I 'll never forget my 1st week in vaping and trying what everyone said was the illest of e juice the bomb from dakang, dk tab' I excitedly opened the bottle tried it and was immediately greeted by some chemically nastiness and sudden thoughts of conspiracy to hurt the ecig world with this blatant bullpile. A poster along wih many others said, 'let it sit for a week top cap loose' and I did and wowwee what a change, it was everything everyone was chatting about, it was the illest magical e liquid I could imagine vaping....

I learned steeping very 1st week vaping and diy on the second week..
