I just got my knockoff eGO this morning, I blew the primer out of the atty, puffed it dry and added a few drops of juice and it still tastes aweful. I looked inside and see that there is something inbetween the bridge and coils of the atty. I am new to vaping, but I started with a supermini with an exposed atty and there is clearly nothing inbetween the bridge and coils of the atty. My eGO kit came with 2 attys, the one I have used already, this material (kinda looks like a candle wick) is brown (burnt) and on the one I haven't used yet, it is white. So, is this supposed to be there? Should I pull it out, move it around, or leave it where it is and just keep puffing until the burnt taste goes away?

Those are arimid fibers which assist the bridge with wicking the fluid directly to the coil. If you drip instead of using carts you can pull them out but the atty needs them to wick properly so leave 'em. It takes several uses to break in an atty anyway so just puff a few more drops thru the atty without inhaling and repeat a couple of times, usually that will get the primer flavor out.

its a filler material to help wick the ejuice to the coil of the atomizer. Not all atty types use it but the 510s do. It started out white and your juice probably turned it brown. I stopped using carts in favor of dripping because I don't like how that filler material (in the atty or the cart) affects flavor.

It is also possible there is still some residual primer juice in the atty. I know you said you blew it out but there might have been a little still remaining. Also, most people believe an atty needs a "break-in" period to get to its best flavor/vapor production so maybe you just need to use that atty a bit more.

in my experience, and from what i've read, sometimes the burnt flavor lasts, sometimes it doesn't. if no amount of juice you put through it seems to rid it of the burnt taste, or if it seems to taste burnt when you know it isn't yet close to dry, then you can try cleaning it or you can try removing the wick. Some swear by flushing their atty's with hot water, others soak them in alcohol. If you decide to try any of these methods, there are a number of posts that explain them better than I could.

You can remove the wick and continue to use carts with it. I've done this with several attys. If you choose to do this just be aware that it will affect the wicking ability of the carts because there won't be anything to draw juice to the bridge. Give the cart at least 10 seconds between draws to let juice work its way down the filler. You might even consider modding the filler so it's more of a plug than filling the entire cart. It's very easy to do. Just cut the filler in half. You might have to fiddle with it so it won't leak, but it definitely works. I've modded all of my filler like this.

Since polyaramids usually require about 450 degrees Celsius or higher to burn, there is really no way to "burn" them with the temps reached inside an ecig coil or pot. The ingredients in the juice will burn at lower temps so the fibers tend to get brown over time. Based on my experience once removed, a 510 atty will not wick as well and therefore not vape as effectively when they are removed. Again, if you are dripping the fibers don't really help that much or for that matter neither does the bridge.

the wicking material is not burning, but rather, it is building up residue of burnt juice. you can clean it off by using one of the many atty cleaning methods found on this site. i use regular rubbing alcohol. i just drop the atty in an empty 10ml syringe filled with about 4ml of alcohol and shake away. drain the dirty solution left over, blow out the atty really good into a paper towel (blowing into both ends), and then i let it sit for about 30min to dry out. then i attach it to the battery and dry fire it to burn off any alcohol residue on the coil. let sit again and repeat. its good to have a spare atty so you can still vape while you are doing this. the wicking material is noticeably whiter after doing this, though not as white as it was when it was brand new, its definitely much cleaner than it was and the atty performs better as well.

I use 91% Isopropyl Alcohol to soak my attys once a week, too. Works like a charm and gets all the gunk out of them. I also think that regular maintenance extends the life of the attys. Out of the 6 I bought back in September 5 are still going strong. The one I lost was my fault. I eviscerated it while trying to de-bridge it. I have successfully de-bridged an atty, but TBQH, I don't think it made any difference in the taste or performance. Now I just leave them alone and clean them.
