Is the Samsung 25r the best mech mod battery in the market right now?

Hi Everyone,

So since I started using mechanical mods the first batteries that I used were Sony vtc4's. Now that these batteries seem to be obsolete and with all the fakes floating around I bought a few alternative batteries. I have a few MXJO's and they seem to work just fine although I've heard they are just LG re-wraps. I've also been testing out the Samsung 25r batteries aka smurf batteries. From what I understand these are actual samsung batteries and not re-wraps. With so many alternative battery choices coming out and more than likely just re-wraps I wanted to get some suggestions and thoughts from everyone.

Is the Samsung 25r the best battery to use for a mechanical mod at the moment?

Thanks in advance to everyone for advice and suggestions.

Cheers,

Devin

Next time I'm due for new batteries, I'll stick with the Xtar 30A's... they are the re-branded VTC4s. There are other good batteries out there, but I've been happy with the VTCs, so I'll just stick with them (even if they've been renamed)
rtdvapor.com usually has them in stock...

How do you know when your battery is toast? Sorry just bought a box mod new to this?

1. They stop taking a charge.
2. They no longer hold a charge.
3. The wrapper has been damaged.
4. The battery has overheated due to user/equipment error.
5. There is any doubt in your mind as to whether or not the battery is safe to use. (When in doubt, throw it out!) **Properly Recycle/Dispose, of course**

I've heard very good things about the 25r's even in high current situations, and picked them up for my first mech. I have no other batteries to compare to (well, green panasonics, but not for this application), but they've worked very well for me. They can hold a charge for quite some time at 0.4 ohms, in my experience.

I have 6 of these 25r's in rotation. They are great in mechs (I mainly vape 0.5-0.8 with mechs) and they really shine in regulated box mods and APVs as well. Saying that, AW has a 20 amp 18650 button top that works very well in most APVs too.

If you find them, I would still pick the VTC4 over the 25r - but I am not paying $12 each when I can get the 25r for around $6 with similar performance.

Just an FYI I've seen numerous different ratings for the 25r from 20 to 25 amps. The best and most reliable information I have is that they are 22 amp batteries - but even if we assume a 20 amp rating, they should be plenty fine at 0.4 and above. I know, I know, too much margin for some people, but I like to err on the side of caution.

These batteries along side the VTC4's I have are not as strong with the exact same build. There is a bit of ramp up time before they start to heat. My VTC4's fire instantly. Sort of like the difference between how instantly an LED light comes on versus CFL's. They both light the room but the LED does it RIGHT NOW!

And everywhere I have read put these at 20 amps. I have 5 sets of them from a recent Co-Op. They are great in my regulated mod. I also have a set of mxjo's and they seem to fire quicker as well. Some deal about internal resistance but I haven't read up on it much.

edit- the other thing about these batteries is so far I haven't heard any reports of fakes.

IMO they are about as good as any 18650 gets today. I've pushed mine right up to 20 amps, have had no issues and not got any more voltage drop under load compared to my VTC's.

What I can't comment on yet is how long they are going to last. I have a couple of VTC3's that have around 70 charge cycles on them that are still as good as new, at least as best as I can measure v-drop, which means they have a lot more life left in them yet. Time will tell with this, but at $6.00 a battery at Illumination Supply, I'm not going to worry about it :)
