Just wondering whether the VTR is a Vamo with the battery tube and pcb placed side by side instead of on top of each other?

If this question has been asked before please forgive me - I'm old. stupid and deliberately annoying. :)

Nope, suppose they would be considered similar though, quite different electronics, and Vamo is 33hz and VTR is 48hz PWM i believe.

No, the VTR is made by Innokin. The Vamo is made by a number of different manufacturers, but not by Innokin.

There is a Vamo mod which looks something like a VTR. It looks like a Vamo cut in half, with the tubes sitting side by side. I don't recall who modifies and sells this mod version.

    Edit: found it.
