Is there a practical replacement for Evod/Protank flavor wicks?

I like my Evod a lot and I'm rather fond of my Protank too. The problem I have with them is that sometimes when I remove the flavor wicks to clean the heads the flavor wicks get badly frayed. I can't seem to get them back together in a suitable fashion and I end up having to discard them. I have tried using the heads with no flavor wicks in place but that just doesn't work for me. So I'm stuck with perfectly good heads but no flavor wicks for them which renders them useless to me.

I've been wanting to try out the Smoktech Aro Pyrex but I need to get past this problem before I do that.

So anyway, my questions are:

1. Do the Smoktech Aro Pyrex heads have flavor wicks like the Evod/Protanks do?

2. Is there something I can buy to use as replacement flavor wicks for my Evod/Protank (and possibly the Aro)?

Thanks.

I hear you! I love the Evod too and dont feel the need to get anything better. The wicks are the key to good vape from an Evod. What I do is carefully remove flavor wicks and blot them with a paper towel and not get them wet when cleaning coil with water. As far as fraying and coming apart I simply place them back together and work them into one piece again. My method seems to work and I get about a months use from coil/wick setup. Mine quit working when coil actually breaks from being heated too many times. Hope this helps.

You can replace the flavor wicks with a little piece of a 100% cotton ball. I actually rip out all the silica from the coil and replace it with cotton on mine. I get better flavor with cotton, just make sure you wet the cotton before reinstalling it and don't let it dry out. Also keep in mind that cotton swells when wet so a little goes a long ways. That is a nice cheap and easy thing to try. You can also get some silica wick and unbraid a little to get some flavor wicks.

This is where I'm having the problem. They are so small and fragile that I can't seem to get them back together properly. Do you twist them together or simply place the strands on top of each other?

I use the Peaches and Cream, but just lay in a full strand, don't untwist it. Snip to length, of course, after the air tube is back.

Aro heads seem to be interchangeable. No great difference between them in the vape. I have a couple of Aro pyrex, for the glass. Otherwise, they're about the same as the Evod and T3S. Both use flavor wicks.

Thanks for the comments on the Aro. I will likely buy at least one of them in the near future.

If you don't mind my asking, what do you mean by "after the air tube is back"?

*grin* Since you helped get me my original diggs.... I saw this, and thought I would let you know, I love love love my Aro tank. It's sleek, and the pyrex is SUPER easy to clean... The replaceable atty's (Dunno if you rebuild) are interchangeable with the Kanger T3S atty's (Mostly, I haven't had one tht didn't fit, but saw a few gripes here on it). When I have my arrow on my spinner, my kids call it " The Wand" since I point it at stuff lol!!

The knurled "chimney" that you grab to unscrew it from the base.

Once you wiggle it off lay your material in there and then reinstall the piece "air tube" "chimney" or whatever and then use sharp scissors to trim it really close. Be careful not to pull it out while cutting it off.

Have you tried using 2mm silica wick for the flavor wicks? I'm wondering if there is a big difference. I'm using 2mm silica for the coils and 2mm silica for the flavor wick too.

When I rebuild my Protank heads, I use a 2mm silica wick and a 1mm silica flavor wick. No gurgling, no leaking, and on a 1.5 ohm build, awesome flavor.

I just cut another piece of 1 or 2mm wick and place it on top and I don't seem to have any problems
ive not tried cotton I will have to give it a go I have used ss/mesh with XS-116 Silica Sleeving over it and that works great or cover with bit of cheese cloth I used this guy and used same process on evod
