Is there a reason we use ORGANIC cotton over regular when making a wick?

I'm getting ready to try my hand at rebuilding my Nimbus Clone, my first rebuild. Putting everything I need together, I notice there is a big price difference in organic cotton balls over just plain ol' cotton balls. Now, I'm willing to stick with the higher priced organic if there is a reason. I'm just curious to know what it is.

I use regular cotton balls. I'll boil them, rinse, and I'll do this 4 times just cause it says they are clean doesn't mean they are besides I don't know where my hands have been sometimes :p but a lot of people use organic cotton balls cause they were not bleached and some believe that bleach is still in the cotton. I don't know it all but when I do the boil/rinse 4 times and let them completely dry and store them in a zip lock baggy, I have not noticed a difference in taste or vapor. Have fun and vape on!!!

From what I've read the main difference is the absence of pesticides and bleach which eliminates the need to boil them.

At my Walgreens a big bag of cotton balls is $3.09 and the same size bag of organic is $3.49. Forty cents more and no worry of extra chemicals and no time wasted boiling. Plus, that bag would last you years even if you rebuilt coils every day.

Here is my very cynical take on this subject: I have no confidence whatsoever that "anything" that says it is organic on the label, is actually organic. I have read too many articles in Consumer Reports to believe all the marketing hype that is printed on packages that we buy.

That said, I don't make my own coils/wicks, but if I did I would have no problem just buying cotton balls at Walgreens or Walmart.

I agree were everything the same, organics the way to go. But, the cost difference is more than is reasonable in my opinion. Were there a clear and absolute benefit to using organic cotton, I could understand. I don't see that so far, but I will wait to hear anyone who has a viewpoint before making a final decision.

the pesticides and herbicides that target weeds in cotton fields are so strong that i couldn't grow a shrub in my yard til i dug a hole 4 times the size of the pot and brought in untreated soil to put under and around it. this was 10 years after the last spraying before the farm was broken into parcels for home building. i'm not sure boiling would do any good to some of that shtuff.

i'm staying organic.....this message was sent from the land of cotton. peace. <*}}}>{

I agree with you Buggainok. I've never read anything that convinced me that so called 'organic' cotton is safer for us. Don't think there is any legal definition of 'organic'. If there is, someone please let me know :).

Venge ODay, I use sterile cotton which has no claim of organic and I can taste hydrogen peroxide for a few drags on a new wick. I don't wash it. I figure the hydrogen peroxide residue helps take care of any 'bugs' that may be in the cotton. I also don't think hydrogen peroxide in the amount I inhale is bad for me.

I've been vaping and on ECF for around 2 years now. I've read threads talking about the dangers of cotton, stainless steel wicks, silica, plastic, diacetyl, brass, cinnamon, exploding batteries and I'm sure a few more that I can't remember right now.

After doing a lot of reading, I vape all of the things mentioned above to some degree, except for the exploding batteries ;). I try to keep the big picture in mind and keep in mind what I know for sure and what I am unsure about.

This works for me. YMMV :)
