Ok, so for my own self interest here - and so I don't mis-state myself in the future - is there any sort of date or timeframe that VK changed or something? I absolutely do not want to accidently misinform someone so if the VK really is totally different from a KR808D then I certainly do not want to tell someone wrong.

I have in front of me right here, a blue case that says V4L and Vapor 4 Life right below that in the upper left corner, and VAPOR KING in green with some filagre in the center.

Inside the case were 2 VK batteries and 2 carts. I have 3 other KR808D batteries. All of these batteries have one slot in the center of the connector, and 2 holes (one on each side) of the threads. The carts have 4 notches on the outer battery side rim and the draw is smooth and barely takes any force to initiate on any one of them.

So... As this VK is a used item... can anyone help me identify this from the battery descriptions perhaps? Are all of these batteries the same and just KR batts? Or are they the same as VK batts, or all VK batts and I just hought I had KR batts? etc...

Thank you for any help any of you could provide. I really strive to be accurate about vendors when talking to people and do not want to be misrepresentative when someone asks me a question.

Take care all,
- Hap

I am sure someone who knows more then I will chime in here, but honestly, I think Steve is more hands on as far as production goes. He seems to be more involved with the processing of items he sells. For instance, I haven't seen any vendor selling the KR808D-1 with the manual batteries, let alone the new super manual battery have you? And I have had mine for weeks now. That has to say something.

I think a healthy competition between vendors is a good thing... ;)

The manual batteries and one of the newer auto batteries that I just recently received from V4L are a little different than the older auto batteries.

If you look into the connector end of the battery, you will notice that there are two little notches that run across the mounting surface inside the battery. The newer batteries do not have these notches, in turn giving them a stiffer draw that more closely resembles an analog. I have no idea about whether or not they have different internal components, but I can guarantee that if these batteries ever die I will be dismantling to see what's inside. I love to tinker:D

The cartomizers I've taken apart have a layer of cotton material separating the heating coil from the poly material. If you are lucky, when/if it starts to burn, you are only inhaling burnt cotton.

I've been trying out a cartomizer setup after exclusively using a super mini. I have to say I'm a little disappointed. It seems like the cartomizer has to warm up a bit before it starts to produce decent vapor, but even then it doesn't come close to the super mini.

I would be tempted to say that you're hitting it wrong. I too came from a super mini, and the VK blows the SM away hands down! Yes it does take just a second to get going, but once it does, it vapes clouds with consistent taste without the need for dripping or topping off. The key is to pull SLOW and LONG.

If you have a VK from V4L then the carts do have a slight break-in period, I assume since they are literally flooded with juice. I have also noticed that some flavors and strengths produce more vapor than others. I believe that the break-in period is a small price to pay to not have to taste the atomizer of the super mini constantly and have to drip or top off every other time I pick it up.

If you are using anything other than the VK then I really can't comment because I haven't tried any other KR808 cig.

It makes perfect sense to me why the mini hits better than the cartomizer (for me at least).

The heating coil in the cartomizer has a lot of "thermal mass" in direct contact with it. It takes longer to heat up due to this mass, and subsequently doesn't get as hot. The mini (which I drip with), has a lot less material in contact with the coil, so it can get hotter faster.

Yes, dripping is a annoying sometimes, but so it grabbing the KR without thinking and taking that first pathetic cold hit.

EDIT: Here is my first attempt any kind of video review/comparison. Super mini vs. KR vapor production, 4 second drags from cold devices.

Back to the original question for a sec ... is there a difference between V4L's VK and the other KR808D-1s?

I sure hope so. I won't slam a different vendor, but I ordered one before I found this subforum and got it today. I ordered the PCC kit and various carts. I charged everything up and just tried some.

I ordered the flavors that I really liked using in my 901, so it's not exactly about flavor, but it kind of is. I was diligent about breaking in the cartomizer (at least 10 drags on each one with primer puffs first to warm up the atomizer), but they still taste like cr*p :( and hardly any vapor. Zero throat hit. The mint actually tastes pretty good, but it's hard for me to judge since I never smoked menthols. But I did get a nice refreshing minty taste in my mouth (but still no vapor or throat hit to speak of).

The PCC itself seems to work fine, so I'll probably give this one to my mom after I get some decent carts from my order with Steve. My mom likes menthol, so I'll give her the mint carts and let her be the judge. The battery is an automatic, and it has a really, really short cutoff -- about 3 seconds. So I'll have to order more batteries from Steve as well.

After spending hours on this subforum last night I ordered a PCC kit from Steve based on all the great reviews here. So I am counting on that as my guarantee that his carts will taste and perform waaaayyyy better than what I got today. :D

you have to operate a VK differently than some other ecigs..this goes for all KR808D-1s in fact:

Long slow pulls. you need only draw hard enough to activate the battery. If you suck on it like youre tryin to start a honda, you'll get little vapor and buttflavored taste. you dont have to do a thousand primer puffs like the videos you sometimes see. you do have to clear brand new superfilled cartomizers...i use the passthrough for this, but a fresh hot battery will work. the first maybe 3-5 drags tops..absolute tops, on a PT will start off as:
drag 1...flavor but little vapor
drag 2... more vapor, better taste
drag 3-5 much more vapor and taste improved or at its best

remember, long slow pulls, dont collapse your face!

There is something grievously wrong with that KR808D-1, here watch what it looks like on youtube:
YouTube - Review of Menthol e-liquid in 24mg from Rocky Mountain Vapor @ rockymountainvapor.com

This is a Dekang juice tested in a 901, then in a cartomizer for KR808D-1.

In both cases vapor production obviously beats a mini. but if you watch the video you'll see that the cartomizer beats the 901 in vapor production and thats with a generic cartomizer and straight up dekang juice. Used a mist-stix empty cause no one else had them.

Hope this straightens out your "where's the vapor" problem, i've only heard that once or twice about a KR808D-1..and in all cases, it wasn't bein hit properly

Steve would say that they are constantly trying to improve the product and that he spends a great deal of time on the phone to China working with manufacturers..bringing them our complaints and trying to find solutions for them.

An example of this would be the change in battery connectors...reduced airflow so you *have* to hit it slow and long..or collapse your face trying to go fast. Removes some of the learning curve from the "face collapser" crowd.

No product in current manufacture is "finished". Most are under constant revision in the attempt to improve the product. I imagine you'll see other suppliers with manual batteries soon, but as the leading retailer of the KR808D-1 model, they tend to listen to Steve's suggestions.

No, it doesn't straighten it out, mine still sucks. ;)

Not to mention a passthrough was used, which will heat the cartomizer up a lot better than a standard battery.

It has nothing to do with "being hit properly". I'm no idiot, and I've tried every different way possible to hit this thing and it never comes close to my super mini.

To stay on topic, I will have to say that this probably answers the OP's question. My battery and cartomizers came from Mist-Stix, so if it doesn't work as well as a VK, then they are obviously not created equal.

Mist stix batteries weigh less...and i cant imagine thats cause there's more guts in them..i think theyre longer tubes with 901 battery filling but i honestly dont know. I do know that theyre useless insofar as duration goes.

My guess is that as i stated earlier, there's something grievously wrong with yours :(

If you watch several of my videos on cartomizer reviews..you'll note that a brand new cartomizer (never vaped and damn near flooded with juice) never works right til it's been "cleared"...meaning baking the omg too much juice out. if you watch, they start off weak...and i take baby drags looking for flavor..then i manhandle it for a vapor production score. Billowing clouds in all cases.

I really think your battery = fail, but without having my hands on it, i cant say, other than my experience with mist stix batteries didnt impress me compared to VK batteries, which are notably heavier in the hand.

If i were to suggest a way to prove this without spending a pile..I'd suggest a passthrough and a genuine vapor king cartomizer pack in a flavor you like...oh and a seat belt, you'll need it. :D

Since the VK passthrough (hell any KR808D-1 passthrough..though few sell it, only place ive seen one) also fits a 901, if you still dont like it you can surely turn it over to a 901 user..but a 901 PT wont work on a cartomizer due to airflow issues.

Also yes a passthrough was used, but i have a fistfull of VK batteries here, and while a passthrough does in fact apply a bit more power to the equasion, if my batteries worked like yours on your video, I'd be pitching a fit. You couldn't sell an e-cig that produced that tiny wisp of vapor to anyone...that's gotta be a battery issue of some kind. My batteries produce piles of vapor..prob 80% of what a PT does on the same cartomizer..in fact i even have that video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0iN3ahKebWg

VK battery compared to VK Passthrough..there ya go!

Well, only one way to see......

how'd you get it out intact lol! i know you didnt drive it through from the ash end, it'd have blown up like a grenade...and yes, those battery ends make hella mods i'm told, cause they work on cartomizers and 901s to boot...I've yet to make any..I have one failed battery that was a defect from new..Steve replaced it for me but left it with me, ive been meaning to recover the threads cause the rest of it = fail..but didnt think of a good way to safely extract the threads

oh, and that does in fact look like the proper battery fillings..hrm, now i'm puzzled..there has to be a difference though..was it a second hand battery? I'd have pitched a fit that a 3 year old woulda envied had i unwrapped my brand new VK and got that tiny wisp you showed on your vid LOL

The picture is deceiving, the other side of the battery and connector bear the scars.....

http://i34.tinypic.com/33k5aug.jpg

I didn't realize how deep I had cut with the dremel at first, the lighting made it hard to see the color difference in the metals. It won't be seen when fitted to a mod though.

I tried to pull it out with a cartomizer before I hacked it up, but the cartomizer came apart first.

The battery was new, had only been using it for about two weeks.

So , does this mean their cartomizer are not interchangeable? Or do they just simply have different spec but I can still use both cortomizer on both model?

the cartomizers are interchangable, as all KR808D-1s share the same thread...if they don't, theyre not KR808D-1s. They also share a common thread with the 901.

So in answer to your question, all of the KR808D-1s share the same thread pattern, and as such the cartomizers and batteries are physically interchangable. It is not my opinion that the flavor, and certainly not the battery duration, are interchangable.
