Is there something wrong with my eGo battery?

I just made the switch from full time smoking to full time vaping on the 17th. I started off with the v2 e-cigarette but immediately was annoyed by the inconsistency and price of their cartomizers. At first I looked for an attachment that might allow me to fit the v2 to a clearomizer with 510 threading, but I can't find anything like that locally. So I decided to just buy an eGo starter kit at a vape shop nearby. It came with a ce4 clearomizer, but I decided I also wanted to get a tank that I could just switch out the wick and reuse, so the girl at the counter showed me a bottom-wick model by kanger (don't know the exact name).

At first, everything worked great, but then I noticed the ce4 started gurgling, and this was only after owning it for all of two hours. I wiped off the battery connections and dabbed up the liquid in the center hole with some tissue. Ever since then, I've spent all afternoon and evening battling the gurgle to no effect. I take one hit after wiping everything out again, no gurgle, but the 2nd and subsequent puffs the gurgling is back, and worse than last time. Now when I try to take a puff I notice the e-liquid puddling on the battery connection. Not only that, but when I put the kanger piece on the battery, it has started to slightly gurgle and there is e-liquid puddling on the battery! Did I break these things? I'm at my wits' end here, can anyone give me a clue what to do?

No you did not break them

Leaking is something that can happen, but I wouldn't have expected it to happen that fast, and I especially don't understand the amount of leaking with the CE4; the CE4 is a top coil with big wicks hanging down isn't it?

For a CE4 to be leaking alot like that you'd have to be sucking very hard I suppose ? I dont use top coils so I'm just guessing there. Unless it is filled all the way up to the top.....

Bottom coil starts to leak after a day or a few days of use; by then it's time to change out the top wicks (carefully), and put some boiled cotton instead- enough to keep the holes plugged. You're probably going to wreck a coil or two learning but luckily there's lots of videos showing how to rebuild those kanger coils:

Hi wimbledee and welcome to ECF. Congrats on being analog free since the 17th. That is HUGE.

Sorry to hear about the trouble with your kit. Not sure what Kanger you have (I use Kanger MT3S clearos), but am wondering if you have another clearo you could try. Or if the coil is replaceable, if you have another coil you could try. If the clearo you are using is a Kanger MT3S, sometimes the coil comes ever so slightly unscrewed from the base. It still fits on the battery, but that can cause leaking and excessive gurgling. This is only an idea and others here with more experience may have better ideas as to what is causing it to occur.

Don't let this challenge tempt you back to analogs. My experience is that each of us has had something not work quite right somewhere along our vaping journey. I only know about the coil coming slightly unscrewed because it has happened to me.

Keep the vape and namaste.

my kanger unitank had issues with gurgling as well but that was the least of my worries with that tank, it seemed to me when i went from using my standard ego starter kit battery to using my ego-ctwist with it i would have to empty and disassemble the tank just to get it to fire all together. it was annoying and ultimately resulted in another upgrade to the kanger areo tank and my smoktech zmax lol

It happens to me, so it is nothing new. With a CE4 it is hard to fix as it is a throw away topper. I take them apart and rebuild them, but it is not something that is easy for a noob. I normally just put it in the rebuild pile until I get around to messing with it and grab another. I know not much help, but QC in China is not great and it happens.

Is this the Kanger tank you have?
Mini Kanger Protank 2 Mini Pro Tank Glassomizer
If so you can take the coil out and replace it, or add another flavor wick, which should slow the wicking and help with the gurgle.

Thicker juice helps also. I use a 50/50 (PG/VG) juice. PG is thinner and VG is thicker, so a higher VG in your juice may also help stop the gurgle.

Just my :2c:.......
That ce4 belongs here

Clean the battery and use a kanger evod/mt3. It's an inexpensive setup and better then the ce4's.
Never had luck with the ce4/5 longer then a few days. They all ended up leaking on me. The evod/mt3 have held up since the beginning and are now used for testing new flavors and backups for the AGA-T2's I have.

Just need to get a better power source

CRAP, fixed the picture......i hope

The ce4 belongs in softicons.com? :D

Thank you all so much for the replies. Yes, I'm not terribly surprised that the clearomizer that the ego came with is junk, but I would have hoped that it would last more than a couple hours! I think I am going to take it back to the shop and ask about it. Someone asked if it has the big thick wicks hanging down and yes, it's that one.

After looking at pictures, the kanger piece I have looks exactly like an evod, so I'm pretty sure that's what I have. My concern was that after all the gurgling, cleaning, testing, and further gurgling (the flavor I put in the ce4 is nicer than the one in the evod so I had to keep trying!) I might have damaged the battery, or perhaps there was something initially wrong with the battery--that might be causing the leaking, since now the kanger seems to also be developing issues with leakage and little gurgles? It's just baffling to me that they BOTH would be messed up so fast, especially since I have heard very good things about kanger as a company. I don't really honk on these things the way I would a cigarette, but I'll try to puff more gently in the future.

The battery is not damaged at all. The Evod is a well known leaker/gurgler and a lot of people have this issue, me included. I'm not sure what else to suggest though! One thing MIGHT help, if you unscrew the Evod like you do when you fill it, slide the little rubber grommet off the chimney and turn it around so the the cup bit faces the other way. This sometimes creates a better seal and stops the gurgle

Thinking about it, one of the kanger tanks did gurgle and leak a bit on me. Found out 1 coil I have would not let the base of my MT3 seat fully. Turns out that the washer part of the coil was larger then the opening inside of the tank and preventing me from screwing it all the way down.
Stopped using that coil no problems since :D

Ok
Top coil and bottom coil

Top coil clearos have the atomizer at the top and big wicks hanging down from them. The wicks get soaked in the eliquid and though wicking, the coil in the atomizer remains damp for you to vape. The problem that happens with top coil clearos is the coil might get dry from chain vaping and then you get burnt hits or dry hits; to avoid that you tip the clearo sideways or give it a twirl to keep the atomizer wet/damp while you are vaping; it doesnt take much liquid but it needs a little.

Bottom coil clearos have the atomizer at the bottom. Once the wick is wet, gravity keeps the wick wet. If you don't do anything at all and leave the bottom coil clear standing for a few weeks, I suppose alot of the liquid will gradually leak out over time; it's just gravity.
The problem with bottom coil clearos is they are more likely to flood just by gravity alone.

Having said all that, the assumption above is that the tank is upright!! If you just leave the tanks lying horizontally on a table, then I guess they both have an equal chance of leaking.
