Go to Walmart or any auto parts store and buy a cheap volt-ohm meter. They are for sale everywhere for under $20. Harbor Freight and Northern Tools sell several models. Google "how to use a voltmeter" and you will find a lesson on how to use it.
Make sure that the Multimeter has a very high sensitivity ohms scale... My old cheap analog meter 1K scale is not nearly sensitive enough for 1-5 ohms.
