First, I'm not going to be harsh to you, but hope you fully understand that you are at that place that most of us wish someone with some sense had beat the crap out of us for choosing to smoke. You've just started with the nic, so stop it now if you can. That's why a lot of us have said not just no, but HELL NO. I've dealt with this mess since the summer of 1970 and it's not fun. Most of us are in that boat and don't want to see someone else start. It's just too easy to take all the steps after taking the first step.

I wouldn't be suprised that I've spent as much on cigarettes as buying my current house, never really did the number as I really don't want to know, but there have been a lot of things that I'd rather have now then a $8 a day habit that I'm having a lot of trouble breaking. I've been vaping for about 3 months and I still can't kill those last 3-5 smokes. That's just how strong these things grab you. Right now you are looking at vaping, but it would be a very easy step from there to cigarettes, all it would take is a hardware failure or out of juice on the wrong day. Nicotine addiction is that strong. And the problem with the cigs is that in addition to the nicotine, you have the other chemicals, some of which are more addicting. vaping takes care of the nicotine and the hand/mouth/keep busy part of this, but not the other chemicals.

Please appreciate what all of these people have said. They really want the best for you and don't wish the mess that they are going through on anyone. And yes we all realize that it is possible that you will be the odd one out that doesn't make that next step, but it's unlikely, do you want to risk that?

Unfortunately it probably wouldn't have mattered, and it may not matter to our original poster. We have no sense of mortality in our teens... and most of us always assume we'll be the exception to a rule (which is why people continue to buy lotto tickets).

To put it in perspective, I can honestly tell you that if I had one wish in this world, it would very possibly be that I had never started smoking. Think about that. If I could change ANYTHING in my life...it wouldn't be to have more money, fame, or anything like that... I would just want to take back that first cigarette I ever smoked and give myself back the 17+ years of slavery. Doing that, I'd have all the money back... years back on my life... and wouldn't have to live with this constant fear everytime I go to the doctor, just waiting for them to tell me "hm, this is interesting. Maybe you should get a chest xray."

Vaping is a great alternative.
But I'd rather be free of this all together.
And some day, I will be. One step at a time.

I really appreciate the many caring responses here. While at first I interpreted them as harsh and hostile, I know understand that you all just wanted the best for me. Obviously you know how this chapter in my life is, because you've all been there. And your stories haven't gone unnoticed, each and every one has motivated my decision.

I ordered a bottle of 0mg nic juice today. I plan to drop the 26mg until the order comes in. If I crave, I suppose I'll vape a little. But I'll only be able to do this early in the morning or late at night as I work all day. I plan on leaving the e-cig at home so I won't even have a chance to use it if I start craving mid-day.

Thanks again everyone for saving me money and securing my freedom. All of you helped somebody today, to what calibre I'm sure you know better than I.

I'm glad I took the time to ask. :)

You can get addicted to nicotine in ANY form (cigs, PV, snus, hookah, nic gum, nic patches); PV are priamrily soemthing for smokers who no longer want to smoke, or want to cut down smoking.
I can't tell you it's 'bad' because I started smoking cigs around aged 18 too; so I'd be a hypocrit if I criticised you for starting at that age. However why start an addiction that you don't need to? Most of us rue the day WE did - although we may enjoy smoking NOW, we also regret the various health issues we have because of it; not just from smoking but nicotine itself, while not something that causes cancer, isn't great for your arteries or hormones.
There are plenty of ZERO nicotine flavors available if you MUST use a PV - I just don't recommend picking up an addiction when you will probably regret it years down the line.
Obviously you are unsure too or you wouldn't have bothered coming here to ask :)

Very very good advice.
Actually there is a lot of good advice here.

Welcome to adulthood Andy, you've made a very wise decision. No one should have to plan every minute of their life around something that's as all encompassing as an addiction. With the intelligence you've shown here on the forum I believe this will be just the first step in a life well lived. Stay smart, stay safe. :)
