My name is Dustin, and I have only been vaping for a few days. I've been a smoker for 3 years, and I'm pleased to say I haven't had one in 3 days! That's not to say it hasn't been a challenge. However, where the challenge lies is not what I expected.

I ordered the $70 kit from Vapor4Life, and it showed up the day after Thanksgiving. I have about 15 cartomizers in 4 or 5 different flavors. All of them are at low nicotine levels except for the vanilla; I accidentally ordered high nicotine. Let's just say it is unbearable. I don't even know if harsh is the best way to explain it. I've had harsh cigarettes, but this thing is on a whole different level.

I can't seem to take a 2 second light draw off of low nicotine chocolate without it tickling and burning my throat. If I take a 5 - 7 second draw, I cough every time.

I'm just trying to find an answer before I give up on the vaping experience and accept the fact that I'm just a smoker :(.

Welcome to the forum Dustin! It's not just you. Almost every time I let someone try my DSE901 all they do is cough and hack and say that it's too strong. I don't get it! It seems fine to me. Perhaps your strength of juice is too high. Did you order a bottle of liquid too? If so, you can cut it with some propylene glycol or some glycerine. Read up on that here on the forum.

I would suggest to try and hold on for a while longer. I smoked 2+ packs a day, and sometimes the vapor from my 510 would make me cough. I think a lot of it was from damage due to the cigs. It seems that I don't have a big problem with it now, but it definitely doesn't help that PG tends to dry you out. Be sure to drink plenty of water and it should help. I've heard that it takes about 2 weeks to fully adjust to the vaping way...well I'm getting close to a month and I'm feeling pretty comfortable with it all. Good luck!
Well, well, well...how time flies. My sig says I have been smoke free for 34 days!!!

(@dee5) That's weird! I let my friend try it, and it didn't bother him at all. Of course :p, I had to try different flavors. I bought everything, except for the vanilla, in low nicotine levels. That shouldn't be the problem.

(@reeds101) I figured much of it was damage from cigs as well. It's only been a few days so I will try and hang on :). 2 weeks is worth it seeing as I've been trying to quit smoking for 3 years.

Thank you both for the advice!!!

BTW: Is there a certain juice that is sold that might be more beginner friendly? Doesn't matter the vendor, but whatever it takes to ease into vaping would be awesome. Perhaps it would be best to stick with what I have in order to just become acquainted with it?

You can add some VG to your mix to get more vapor with less throat hit, keeping the nicotine mg down will help settle the throat hit. I think you are still testing the cig and will find a sweet spot to vape in, by all means don't give up. You are still in the learning curve of good vaping. Each of us has to test test, and test to find out own happy place in vaping. Don't let it bother you we all had to go through that transition period and is different for different smokers. What I'm saying is each of us had to find their favorite cig, voltage, and combinations of liquids that works best for us. Part of vaping is playing with battery, atomizer, and E-liquid, it borders on a hobby with so many different was to accomplish the sane end result. I couldn't vape one single flavor of liquid I like to mix my own and experiment with everything the vaping experience has to offer,

I've been thinking about VG actually. Any recommended vendor?

I had similar reactions when I started vaping (with a 510 and Dekang juice, not the cartomizers). I just suffered with it for a while and it did get a bit better but after some research I found out it was probably the PG.
So I ordered some Ecopure and haven't had the problems since.

I buy mine from cignot.com (I recommend the Rich, it's a sweet caramel and vanilla flavor. I'd get 10mg to start):

Cignot- Ecopure

They also have a lot of cheap VG liquid in small sizes. It's all 26mg nic so you'd probably want to buy zero nic in the same flavor and mix them 1-1 (would give you 13mg juice):

Cignot- VG juice

Cignot- zero mg VG juice

You can refill your cartomizers with any VG you buy. Here's a thread about how to do that:

I also hear that V4L will be getting VG cartos in the future.

So don't give up on it yet, hang in there.

I like the "creamier" types of flavors myself, throat hit but seem smoother. It took me a few days to get acclimated to the vapor. Small sips and not full draws until it became easy and satisfying.

My boyfriend on the other hand still coughs up a lung if he ever takes a hit off my Vapor King. It just doesn't seem to be for him. I'm going to try VG sometime and see if he can handle that. We both smoked the same analogs so it must be something about him and the juice that just doesn't work. Other friends have tried it with no problems either.

Come on down to the V4L subforums if you want to chat or learn more with us!
