Whoever told you it was 304 is incorrect(I'm assuming you read that it was type 304 on Amazon...), Beadalon states clearly right on their own site that all of their stainless steel type wire is 316L
Beadalon - Stainless Steel Wrapping Wire Honestly if you're getting conflicting information on what exactly the wire is comprised of perhaps that is a sign to avoid it.
I would personally advise against it unless you can verify with absolute certainty that the wire you have is pure 100% Stainless Steel, while it may work I feel you may be taking a chance at buying this type of wire from a company who produces hundreds of different types of coated copper wire on the off chance that something got packaged incorrectly or cross-contaminated. Realistically I understand those chances are very slim but I would never want to hear a story about someone accidentally coiling a plated copper wire in to their
vape, I'd imagine that could get real nasty real fast.
What I tend to recommend to people is Stainless Steel surgical suture wire, it is generally 316L(can also be found in 304) and made from 20G to 40G, depending on the size and where you get it from you can pick it up in bulk 4oz spools for less than $0.05 per foot depending on the size.
