CSFK condemns new move by Frito Lay

http://smokles.wordpress.com/2010/12/29/csfk-condemns-new-move-by-frito-lay/

Partial Quotes:
Yesterday, Frito Lay, maker of such snack foods as Doritos chips, announced that about half its snack foods would soon be made with all natural ingredients, including removing such known-harmful additives as monosodium glutamate (MSG). The move was immediate condemned by the Campaign for Snack-o Free Kids (CSFK), who accused Frito Lay of trying to market their product to children.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is reported to be monitoring the situation closely. An FDA official familiar with the matter reported that if Frito Lay implies in their advertising that the new natural snacks can be a substitute for snacks with more artificial ingredients then FDA will seize the new products as an unapproved artificial-ingredient-cessation device. “We cannot have people making patently obvious claims without doing completely uninformative clinical trials,” the official reported, adding that pointless clinical trials is one of the few remaining growth industries in the U.S. economy.

What on earth is this "free" country coming to? God help us!

I believe that this article is an example of what they used to call "satire". Essentially, one would pick a premise, compare it to another situation, and use the piece to point out the ridiculousness of the real-world situation.
Not seen much in the United States any longer, people are far too "mad as hell", and EVERYTHING is super-serial guys.

Homeish now
“this is just a way for Big Snack to hook health-conscious 14-year-olds, and will then be a gateway for them to switch to fluorescent orange highly artificial snacks when they are older and less concerned about their health.”

“We cannot have people making patently obvious claims without doing completely uninformative clinical trials,” the official reported, adding that pointless clinical trials is one of the few remaining growth industries in the U.S. economy.

So far, no actual consumer has expressed any interest in the news whatsoever.

No way mpetva, this only serves to make the point that the rhetoric out there has been so utterly ridiculous for so long with little if any challenge that it can condition people to believe just about anything. You know things are really screwed up when today's "hyperbolic satire" becomes tomorrow's "public health strategy."

I understand what you are saying, but I feel so utterly stupid now for not having caught on to it being "satire".

Thanks mpetva, I was starting to get a complex. I thought I was the only one who wrote things as satire that nobody got but now I know Paul Bergin (or whoever wrote it) can also. No wait, Elaine's great at it also so that's three, we almost have an army. I personally loved the way they put that together.

Don't dare delete it. It really ties to the way tobacco products are treated by the zealots who I'm starting to believe really don't want cigarettes to go away until their boats are loaded with gold.

"Margret “Nanny” Myerson" aka Matt Myers. I love it! Anyone who doesn't have http://Tobaccoharmreduction.org saved to their favorites should do so NOW! A fabulous resource to learn about what is going on in tobacco harm reduction, e-cigarettes & tobacco control.

Thanks, mpetva - this is the first smile I've had reading ECF in a while.
