Is this the right coil wire for a noob to buy in bulk ?

Here's a table I came up with for making pdib-standard 8 wrap micro coils:

Code:
An 8/7 wrap micro coil on a Reomizer 2:
26 AWG Nichrome 60 = 0.5Ω @ 0.1272" wide
based on the above:
26 AWG Kanthal A1 = 0.6Ω @ 0.1272" wide
27 AWG Kanthal A1 = 0.8Ω @ 0.1136" wide
28 AWG Nichrome 60 = 0.8Ω @ 0.1008" wide
28 AWG Kanthal A1 = 1.0Ω @ 0.1008" wide
29 AWG Kanthal A1 = 1.2Ω @ 0.0904" wide
30 AWG Nichrome 60 = 1.3Ω @ 0.0800" wide
30 AWG Kanthal A1 = 1.6Ω @ 0.0800" wide
31 AWG Kanthal A1 = 2.0Ω @ 0.0712" wide
32 AWG Nichrome 60 = 2.0Ω @ 0.0640" wide
32 AWG Kanthal A1 = 2.5Ω @ 0.0640" wide

Different leg length could vary these ± 0.1Ω due to rounding.

A 1/16" drill bit is 0.0625". My 16 gauge filler needles are about 0.645" at least on my calipers. About the same.

ahh. I see.
I'll grab the one you suggested.
shipping $10 to Oz.
is 28 considered the noob-gauge ? I was under the impression I wanted 30.
Maybe both?

If you are aiming for coils around .9 to 1.5 ohms the 28 is great. For higher ohms the 30 or 32 gauge. I use 32 gauge for coils around 2.2-2.4

Look up Temco on Ebay. They are probably cheaper!

I have 100 foot spools of Kanthal A1, in even # gauges from 26 to 32, as well as some Nichrome 60. I'd recommend at least a spool each of 28 and 30 Kanthal A1. With a range of 7 - 9 wraps and varying coil diameter, you can get close to pretty much any resistance you'd want on a mechanical Grand.

26 is for getting down in the sub-ohm range, while 32 is better for ProTanks, etc. or if you want higher ohm coils for a VV Grand with higher voltage. IMO, it's too high of a resistance for a mechanical Grand.

Temco is undoubtedly the best source for US purchases. I don't know anything about their international shipping costs though. Maybe someone else can address that.
