So I've converted a couple people to vaping. My brother is full time. My friends son just started. But he is smoking less. Anyways.... a friend got interested in it today.... problem is, he only smokes when drinking. I feel that vaping could get him hooked on nicotine more dependantly . Is vaping a lot still better than smoking a little? With all the flavors.....and the hobby aspect....it's easy to get sucked in.

What finally got me over analogs was discovering nets. The flavors of the different cured tobacco is just so much better than analogs its not even close. And a think the steam rather than combustion helps maintain those nuances. Especiallly noticeable at hom on a drippper. Out and about with a clearomizer and not net its a tough call.

First off, like the others said, good job on the conversions!
I'd agree vaping is a lot better than smoking as long as it doesn't encourage a nic addiction... And even if it does, nic isn't all that bad.
I vape higher nic when drinking. I started smoking when drinking, and nicotine with alcohol pair nicely... You may suggest an ego or something like that so that if he wants to vape at the bar or whatever he can use that, but I'd add the caveat that if he wants to vape when not drinking he should vape 0mg.

Great job on the conversions :thumb:. For your latest one, it's not so simple IMO.

He only smokes when drinking, but how long is that going to last until he gets sucked in and starts smoking full time? If that happens, he could still switch to vaping, but it's something to consider. Or, like other people have also said, he could just switch now to vaping when he drinks.

Personally and FWIW, I find nicotine from vaping is not addictive for me. I weaned down to no-nic over 9 months, vaped that for 6 months, vaped 10 mg (the highest I could vape then) for a month and then back to no-nic for a month. I had no problem whatsoever switching to no-nic the second time.

The current thought from medical people who understand vaping and have reviewed the best research we have on vaping is that the risk is around 1% that of smoking.

I would explain all this to him and let him make up his own mind. He is after all the one who is taking on the risk.

There is no evidence to date that shows someone who never smoked and tries vaping with nicotine becomes hooked on it, and certainly to no degree that someone "smoking a little" can get sucked right in to a full blown smoking addiction.

There is a boat load of chemicals in smoking that get you hooked on it. Vaping liquids containing nicotine is not the same addictive process that smoking is.

I used to only smoke analogs when I had a drink in my hand...and it turned into a pack a day habit. It was "when, not if" for me. And credible research finds vaping safer than analogs...so vaping "a lot" is better than smoking even just with drinking as it is now. Considering the big picture...encourage the vaping!

Exactly the same for me, I smoked when I drank since I was 16, and went FT when I was 22, pretty late bloomer as it were! But turning to vaping has been one of the best changes I've ever made, and it's so noticeable. I am never tempted for a cigarette any more, but about once a month for the last 3 months, I've crashed one cigarette, out of curiosity, how it made me feel, and it was truly putrid, it basically cemented me on vaping and really made me gag at the thought of smoking again. I just couldn't go back!

I'm now also actively trying to 'recruit' [emoji23] - 2 converted so far with one more intending to switch shortly. Vaping is such a great topic to discuss with smoker friends and I really enjoy seeing the change and improvement in their health and outlook once they make the switch.

I've been vapeing for about 5 years. About a year ago i took a drag off of a friends Marlboro (i can't remember why and don't want to). I swear, i almost hurled right there on the sidewalk. Incredibly nasty tasting. NEVER again. I can't stand being around analog cig smoke anymore and avoid dirty ashtrays like they are the plague.

Going against the grain on this one. I would say smoking in moderation is better than vaping full time. I agree that it is easy to get sucked in, though not easy to get addicted. The hobby aspect of vaping and the fact that it can be done in far more places could lead an otherwise moderate user of nicotine to become heavy user.

Plus, I also think a smoke tastes better while (binge) drinking. Not way better and in general vaping tastes far better. I could see one who likes to smoke when drinking getting into vaping and yet when drinking preferring the smoke.

Obviously, I'm in the minority here so take everything I'm saying with grain of salt.

I suggest you talk to your friend and maybe suggest he stop drinking. That way he could kill 2 birds with one stone. No drinking, it is actually better not to drink alcohol, and no smoking or vaping.

I can honestly say, if anyone I considered a friend tried telling me I should stop enjoying an occasional drink, I'd laugh at them the first time. I'd warn them to mind their own business the second time. After the third time, there wouldn't get another opportunity, because we wouldn't be friends anymore. Talk about over stepping a line. I honestly can't even imagine one of my friends ever being so rude or inappropriate.

From the sounds of it the friend doesn't occasionally drink.

What he has 1 or 2 drinks every now and then and then starts smoking cigarettes? I doubt it. But then I'm not there and he isn't my friend.

Then you don't have real friends. Maybe you have some acquaintances. But real friends tell you the honest truth about your actions.

If you did that then you were never friends with that person. If you couldn't allow them to express their concerns to you about your behavior, no matter what it was, then you don't consider them a real friend. Again you have acquaintances and you should look at your side.
