Is your atty really done? Or can it be fixed

I had a bad 510 atty right out of the box. No sizzle. No vapor. Nothing.

I posted all around and even tried contacting the vendor for a new one. Lol.

So what is an atty? It's like a light bulb without the glass. At the bottom, the threads are one contact and the circle at the extreme bottom is another. They are separated by a rubber gasket. The leads run up and wrap around the wick and bam. Atization. The steel mesh is just for ease of use and has nothing to do with working/not working.

So my symptoms were this: charged battery lights up on it's own. When I attached the atty it would blink rapidly. And the atty would do nothing. What's that mean? It means that the battery isn't going full circle with the atty. And that means only one thing to me. The wires going from the contact to the wick and back are either broken or grounded out (touching the side of the atty causing a short). I went with the latter because the battery was telling me something was wrong. If the wires were broke , the battery wouldn't even realize the atty was attached.

So. Instead of taking apart the while thing. I just adjust the fit of the mesh using a small pick. Just to be sure it wasn't touching the wires. It didn't look very neat and uniform originally. Then, I used a tiny paper clip and went from the bottom (battery side) and eased around in there. I took a careful peak through the top and made sure I gave each wire a nice shove.

Back on the battery and pow! Snap crackle pop. It's alive!
The only real reason to open an atty is if the wires are truly broken. And then it's probably cost effective to just buy one. However, if the wires dont appear to be broken, it's worth a shot to try this. The elements may have just shifted and need to be adjusted. Don't toss a dead atty until it's been thoroughly poked and prodded.
