LOL! I was hoping you would unconfuse me...nope. I've never seen a drip shield in person, but thought I understood the concept - a tube that goes on the outside of a 510 atty to catch drops and a drip tip goes on top - but apparently not. When I was looking for info to put in my blog, I found an image of how to use a drip shield and it said to use a 510 to 510 adaptor. I have stared at the picture and still can't figure it out. I can't tell if it's necessary for that specific type of shield or what. I finally ended up saying that if someone wants to use a drip shield to ask for info from a member who has used one.
I think that you were on the right track, the 510 drip shield does indeed go on the outside of the 510 atty to catch extra juice that leaks from the atomizer holes.
The 510 drip shields I've seen and used are long enough that they would extend past the top of most 510 atomizers and get in the way of adding your drip tip to the atomizer. That's why in most cases you'd want that 510-510 connector if you wanted to use a drip shield. I guess with the extended barrel 510 atties that wouldn't be necessary.
Personally I can't drip a 510 anymore without the shield. The leaking is just too much of an inconvenience.
By the way, great dripping blog!! I love it when the experienced people take the time to help out newbies.
