I don't clean my atties anymore because I use LR and HV, but when I did clean these were the steps I followed:

Soak in 91% Isopropyl Alcohol for 20 minutes. You can soak longer if needed, but if your atties have a paint coat it might start to peel off the more you soak them.
Take them out of the soak and let them dry overnight so that all of the alcohol evaporates completely.
That's it.
Here's a little thread that gives some pointers on avoiding a harsh, burnt taste when using atomizers.

I have read to scoop up the alcohol with the atty and let it drain out the battery end..myself however, I have an espresso maker with a milk steamer, and I have found this works best for me:) I just hold with pliers and let the steam all the nasty stuff right out:)

Remember Iso alcohol is poison. Make sure your atty is totally dry before vaping with it.

I used to clean with alcohol. Then after a month or two I found the alcohol was not enough anymore and wasn't getting everything off. So I switch to boiled water first then alcohol.

blow out the atty, soak in a deep bowl of near-boiling hot water, using a tongs to scoop water through the atty then to tilt the atty underwater to make sure all air bubbles are out, and soak it for 15-20 minutes, scoop water through again, then shake/blow it out. Then I drop it in the alcohol jar, tilting with the tongs to let out all air bubbles then and let it soak overnight. Next day I take it out, shake it out, and set it to dry in my drying container (so I don't lose stuff - a clean margarine tub bottom lined with paper towels). Next time I need a clean atty I switch to the clean one (it is dry by then) and I prime it well with juice dripped on the bridge (3-4 drops or more if needed - I don't have to worry about leaks damaging my batteries - I have sealed manuals batteries). I wait a few minutes for the liquid to soak down to the coil. Then I vape.

I used to swap attys and clean one weekly when I used an atomizer for all of my vaping. But I hardly have to clean attys anymore. I use Boge cartomizers on my 510's and Vapor4Life cartos on on KR808D-1 for my favorite juices. I only use attys to drip to test new juices and to occasionally drip some that are thicker than I will put in cartos.

the alcohol method some swear by it, but to be honest, i like the cheap vodka method better.

ive tried both and i like the cheap vodka method better. lately ive been using and old ultrasonic cleaner with vodka in it, and its brilliant.

I agree. A cheap bottle of Vodka works great. The cheaper the better in my opinion. The no name brand for 3 bucks at walmart works great. I put the atty in a shot glass and cover it with vodka and let it sit over night. Make sure to let it dry out first, although the alcohol evaporates quicker than other methods ive heard. This method has never brought back performance, but gets rid of the burnt taste or the flavor from a juice you dont like.

That's how I do it as well.

I use both the ISO Alcohol rinse method, and/or the hot water method. Both work. Kinda depends on the gunk. Also, some juices gunk an atty faster than others (dark juices, in particular, seem to do this the most).

Hot Water Easy Method
--------------------------
1) Blow out the atty - get as much of everything out as possible.
2) Run hot tap water through the cart end for say, 10 seconds, letting it run out the threaded end.
3) Blow out again
4) Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you think it is running out cleanly/easily (like if you just tuck an edge into the stream).
5) Blow it out again. Blow a full breath through it. Get it as dry as you can.
6) Dry it - options
.....A) Let it dry overnight (Nah)
.....B) Put some PG/VG into it and blow it out a couple of times
.....C) Do a "warm burn" just heating it up enough to evaporate most of the water
7) Add juice and vape it. If too wet, blow out juice and repeat.

Don't believe any crap about having to use distilled water, or boiling the heck out of it (a valid method, but not essential)

ISO
-----
Note: Ingredients should say 91% Isopropyl Alcohol, distilled water...AND THAT'S IT. Stuff sold as rubbing alcohol can often have other things in them (like oils, fragrances, etc.) so make sure you are using the pure stuff (Isopropyl Alcohol).
1) Blow it out
2) Put ISO (91% or higher) in to a bowl two about 1/2 inch - shot glass works here too
3) Dip atty into iso and let it run out threaded end.
4) Do this until it runs clean. Can let it soak too if needed.
5) Blow out two breaths worth.
6) Can optionally do a "warm burn" to heat it up and evaporate off any remaining alcohol. I usually don't need to.

If you're worried about ISO taste, rinse it as in the water method above (don't need to tho). Small amounts are harmless. It evaporates away completely if you let it. Blowing it out well should get rid of it.

Either of these methods only take me a couple of minutes per atty. I only use one atty per month, so I keep it clean and clean it quickly.

Remember to blow it out once or twice per day between cleaning days... keeps it working. Dry burns are hard on the coils, but may be required as a last resort (where you would throw it out anyway). Never dry burn an LR atty, it will pop.

Good Luck!

P.S. Vodka is good too... with O.J. in a glass. Dang expensive for atty cleaning, and isn't as pure. Also has trace sugars and other stuff in it... mostly water. High proof stuff, like everclear, is still a greater % water than ISO, and is hard to find.

2 cents.

Sorry, I mostly agree. But I don't recommend dry burning except as a last resort (a resurrection method only).

Otherwise, I agree... it's simple. Listing all the steps for newbies helps. Cheers!

I'll defer to your experience, AttyPops, noted you're against dry burning in your post. I've been rotating attys & dry burning since I started 3 months ago, haven't lost an atty yet. If each atty can last me 3 months, I'm happy. It's still cheaper than cartos & gives a clean taste. Btw, did you change your avatar...again? :)

Dry burn if you want... it's all cool. Whatever works for you. I find it hard on the coil, but that's me. I think we're basically saying much the same thing..... rinse it out, keep it simple. I detailed all the steps to help the newbies out.

P.S. Warm burn = just warming the atty... but not necessarily getting the coil red, or not for long.... letting it cool a bit between heatings.

OT: Yes, avatar changed when Tuck turned to an ECF vet (was a cowboy themed avatar costume party)... see link in my signature. Everyone is welcome to help people celebrate their ECF anniversary.

P.P.S.
Lucid206: Use the 70% stuff up... just get the 91% next time..... The 70% stuff (assuming it has no other ingredients than water) is not going to evaporate as quickly.

Oh, that party...the way I see it, the atty is just like my electric stove, a much smaller version and very delicate. When I get grease & crap on the stove heating elements, I turn on the burner & fan...all clean. Of course, I don't know what damage I'm doing to the elements. Ah, let's face it. I'm lazy, bought pre-cut blue foam kind of lazy.

I gave Lucid 2 bus transfers instead, into other threads. The step by step was in Atty Resurrection Method thread. Once again, easy & lazy.

p.s. sorry for being slightly OT.

Which end do you run the steam through?

Good question:) I start with the end you drip through, letting the steam get right down into the bridge and wick to blast all the grime out. Then, I flip it to the battery connection end and blast everything out of that. I do it over a dish so I can see all the dirt and colored water that starts to pool and I know when that stops I have cleaned it thoroughly. I then blow out the water with my mouth from both ends and drip some fresh liquid into it and blow that through as well. This get's the remaining water out. That's it! Ready to vape:) No waiting overnight to dry out:) Hope this helps? And for those that don't have an espresso maker...go get one..lattes are so much better than reagular coffee:):vapor:
