I can't for the life of me seem to successfully rewick a SUBTANK Coil.

Using the standard twist method to extract the old cotton. I rewick with my japanese cotton and no matter what I do it just burns and doesn't seem to wick juice.

I've used very thin ammounts of cotton, very thick and even in between and its always the same thing. After the initial prewetting juice drys up.... Instant lung full of burnt cotton, doesn't seem to matter how long I let it sit.

I generally run from 19-23 Watts on my sigelei 100w.

Anyone else have a similar issue and/or better luck?

You probably did this but did you check to make sure none of the coils are touching or something is creating a hotspot? Your ohm reader is reading .5?

Do you have a photo of your wicking method?

Perhaps someone could help if they could see how you're doing it.

I certainly had problems with their OCC coils, none with the RBA using rayon...haven't tried regular cotton in the subs.

As a matter of fact, they perform flawlessly. Personally, I really like the full and mini...not crazy about the nano using the junk OCC coils.

I have no problems with the OCC coils they perform flawlessly for around a week before they need changing. Which a week for a coil the way I vape is about all I can ask for.

Do you a photo of your wicking method?

I could record a short video maybe.

Are you dry burning the oil off the wire prior to inserting your wick?

Edit...I mean the machine oil on the coils.

In this particular case I'm and reusing a used coil, twisting out the old cotton then rolling and stringing through new cotton, after buring the gunk off the wire.

I haven't wrapped a coil and inserted into the head specifically but I may try that next just to make sure I'm not fudging the stock coil when removing the old wick

Did you ever get this figured out? I'm having the same problem. I'm about ready to throw in the towel on the rewicking idea which would put a serious crimp in my vapeability just from budget concerns (I go thru coils too fast)... I rewicked both the OCC, don't know how to test for hot spots as someone mentioned, but the coils weren't touching and I did soak in rubbing alcohol then dry burn to clean before rewicking... On the first try, I got one good hit then a dry hit... Second time around I used less cotton, didn't even get one good hit. It was in fact the worst hit I've ever had. I pulled it open and if anything it looks flooded. Oh and i primed a ton. Put a couple drops onto the toil itself, filled the tank & left it for 30 min, took 2 unfired hits, then hit the button and almost retched... HOW did I mess up? Please help lol

Don't dry burn, you risk destroying the rubber gromit. I had the same problem with dry/bad hits, but seem to have worked it out now. I use plenty of cotton, more than I normally would (about a 7 mm strip of a cotton pad for a 3 mm coil), clip the wick ends very close and slightly tuck them into the juice channels.

Just wanted to add to this, I had the exact same issues with rewicked OCC coils. I ended up taking the tank off and just firing with the base & coil on to have a look. Saw I was getting a hot spot (red hot) on the coil and potentially roasting the wick & juice. I have tried around 6 or 7 rewicks (not rebuilds) of these OCC Coils and never got it right. Gave up in the end.

I think I'm gonna give the RBA deck a try in the end but I want to get the hang of wicking correctly before I start wrapping coils, lol. I think my error might have been twisting the entire length of the cotton vs just twisting the "threading end" of it - not sure, as I have yet to try it again since I realized that! *fingers crossed* lol

I've had some success with an organic Egyptian cotton called Drago. It's incredibly absorbent so it keeps the juice flowing really well. It comes in a roll (not pads) and is a little difficult to work with at first. But with a little practice I rewicked several coils and haven't had a single burnt hit. Might be worth a try.

I have had no success dry burning these I just rebuild them now will try the rda soon rebuilding the stock coils is really easy though. Like the other guy said I think the grommet gets heated and is giving off the bad taste. if someone can tell me how to dry burn without the damage I would love to know. But like I said rebuilding them is easy.
