Yes, this is an excellent beginner/intermediate "mod", or APV. (APV = advanced personal vaporizer)

Advancing Up the Vaping Ladder to Mods

  • Longer battery time between charges (2 - 3 days) than an eGo battery
  • Ability to vape while charging the battery (called "pass through ability")
  • More powerful battery than an eGo to use attachments requiring more power (RBA's)
  • May delay the desire to upgrade to a more advanced setup at a later time.
  • Allows the use of super low resistance atomizers (sub-ohm)
  • Built-in voltage (battery meter) and resistance (ohm reader) meters
  • Variable power settings (variable voltage & wattage).
  • More durable than an eGo battery, but this comes at the expense of being bulkier in size and weight, and being less pocket friendly than an eGo pen

What type of tank are you going to be using on your iStick?

My protanks (and any tank that did not have adjustable airflow control) didn't like the iStick because of the problem below. On the other hand, the mini (and full sized) Nautilus worked great on it.

This problem was fixed when the newer iStick 30 watt came out.

There are a few problems with the iStick 20 watt in regards to it's circuitry (it measures mean not RMS). It is not capable of down regulating power (it is widely inaccurate, especially at lower voltages). The istick 20 watt can't output voltages between 3v and 4.2 volts (when the battery is fully charged) even though the display says it can and is.

Here is a table that shows you really what is going on.

The iStick 20w is, sort of, a beta version of this line from Eleaf. The 30w has many improvements that make it a much better battery.

That said, the 20w is a good battery if you use the right tank on it. Because it tends to run at a higher voltage/wattage you need a tank that can handle that extra power. The Aspire Nautilus mini is one, another group of tanks from Eleaf, the GS Air family including the original GS Air, the GS Air M and the GS Air MS, will work well on the 20w iStick. The GS Air family are about half the price of the Nautiluses.

Always use the 510 to 510/Ego adapter. It will extend the 510 connector's thread life significantly.

I really like my 20w iSticks (I have 5) but I wish the 30w would have been the first one introduced.

Hello Baditude,
I'm new to vaping, have one of these and was unaware that it allowed the use of super low resistance atomizers (sub-ohm)
Can you please advise what you use?
Thanks, Kev.

It's a great intermediate device and I think you will like it. Keep in mind, though, that it isn't designed to sub ohm. The specs say it won't fire if your coil is lower than 1 ohm. However, mine will fire with coils as low as 0.8 ohms. Just manufacturing tolerances I suspect.

Hope it helps and Happy Vaping!

This. The GS Air M costs about $10, the coils cost about the same as Nautilus coils, you get more air flow options, and 60% more juice capacity in a smaller tank. It performs GREAT on the iStick 20, especially with the newer 1.2 ohm coils. Great option to consider.

Hadn't really decided on a tank yet but a lot of people have recommended the nautilus so I think I might get one.

I recently got the Billow 2 and there's nothing NOT to like about this RTA. Many great RTA on the rapidly ever changing RTA market, but I'm loving the Billow 2.
5ml, dual coil, airflow for days, bottom fill, don't need to empty tank to rewick/rebuild (like subtank), 4 large juice channels. Can run high VG without wicking issues.
