No problem. You might have noticed that lots of people recommend the 30w, and very very few recommend the 50. It's got some serious issues depending on which batch you have.
So then it's true that it only pertains to the 50 watt mod because of a bad batch.. At first I heard people giving all sorts of reasons for the problem such as it was due to e-juice leaking into the 510 connection which isn't sealed. "The 30watt & 50watt both have a spring-loaded 510 which is NOT sealed on the inside of the iStick. Juice getting inside of the mod could cause this problem. This would explain why the 20watt iStick didn't have the same issues, it has a sealed 510 connector."

Nah, it's due to shifty design not related to juice leakage. No mod should catch fire while charging. Good rule of thumb. I wouldn't buy one, just because you have no way of knowing if yours will catch on fire or not.

The biggest issue is Eleaf will not warranty their products , they might say they will but they don't , "Reddit" has pages and pages of users experiences and it's ugly.
Read their warranty page. It only applies if you buy direct from them. And only use their tanks. Go figure.

One problem the 30W has... Some of them at least... The 510 threading is a bit off. So I will have about 50% of the atty's I use get jammed as I'm screwing them down. Then tend to stop about 1mm above the deck. They make connection just fine, but it's more of an aesthetics thing.

The 30w has been out for a much longer time and has very little problems. I have not heard of an auto fire problem with the 30w.
The early 50w is the one that has had lots of problems. Auto fire and catching fire. Later issued 50w are OK.
I have both 30w and 50w. One 50w started to auto fire and Rocky Mountain Vapor replaced it no charge. They have a 90 day warranty and a good price.

My 30 watt doesn't autofire but the fire button is now sticking and won't stop firing unless I completely turn it off.
Still, that's an annoyance and something I would never put up with.

I'm not a fan of mods that use a non-replaceable internal battery.

  • I want to be able to choose which batteries that I vape with. The internal batteries in mods use a LiPo chemistry which is not a safe chemistry, hence the fires caused when these mods autofire. I will use only IMR/hybrid batteries which are safe chemistry and do not burst into flames during thermal runaway.

iStick 50 watt burst into flames after autofiring
  • Once the internal battery dies of old age (1 - 2 years), the battery can't be replaced so the entire unit becomes a throw-away.
About 2 years ago Smoktech sold a regulated box mod similar to the iStick. There were a couple of auto fire incidents, after which Smoktech removed it from their mod lineup voluntarily due to safety issues.

Despite several reported incidents of autofiring and burning iStick 50 models, iSmoka and iLeaf have refused to officially address the problems of the iStick 50. They also will not honor any warranties unless the customer has purchased their product directly from them online and uses only iSmoka tank devices.
