I did something to myself and I have pain in my neck shoulder and hand. I'm usually pretty stoic but this is intense. No sleep, can't eat, trying to function but not able to at all.

I went to the chiropractor this morning (my first time) it is too messed up for them to even start working on it yet, so all I can do is take anti-inflammatory meds and ice it. I can only turn my head about 20 degrees to the right and about 15 degrees to the left. I spend about three hours a day driving and I still haven't figured out how to drive when you can't turn your head. If you live in Texas, be very afraid.. oh and if you see a blinker you might wanna move, LOL!

To say I am bummed would be an understatement. Not only because it hurts, but because if I can't get it fixed I will have to move into an office position and I am not the office type. I have people that count on me and I need to be out there doing my work.

To top it off, I've been smoking analogs a few times a day. I know it is all in my head, but it helps with the stress and I feel horrible even when I'm doing it.

This awful day ends with me sitting here smilin. I got a package and I think those guys are psychic or something because it was full of exactly what I ordered + thoughtful bonuses. I don't like to say what bonuses I get but they were thoughtful and really lifted my spirits. I just wanted you guys to know I appreciate you.

Oh, Shannon, I feel for you. I get pain a lot with lupus, but the neck/head/shoulder is the absolute worst. It's like a lightning bolt going down my head and the back of my neck.

Like others here have said, trigger point massage can work wonders, especially if it's a pinched nerve. I know it has really helped me with my fibromyalgia pain. Hope the chiro can work on you pretty soon. Pain really drains the energy right out of you.

Take care -- we'll be thinking about you. Hope you get to feeling better real soon.

If you shrug your shoulders, you will see a muscle pop out. Thats your upper trapezius muscle. You can push a couple of fingers into it, and feel a knotty bump of muscle. That's your trigger point. Relax your shoulder, and push in until you feel a warm pain. Hold it for about 15 seconds, relax, and repeat. After that, try and see if your mobility improves.

Of course, wait until your pain pills wear off.

Feel free to ask any trigger point/soft tissue/nerve questions if you have any. I'd be glad to help, and even make something on youtube for you.

Also, after re-reading your post, you mentioned that you hand is affected. That may be a sign of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. There are a couple of easy tests to rule this in, or out....so by all means, keep us updated.

ugh. i feel that. I hate neck pain. I hate all back pain. Mine is all messed up from work.

Try this stuff for on-the-go. It's miraculous FREEZEITGEL.COM I use the roll-on stick at work. Also, alternate heat with the cold. And If you see a doc and can get something like flexeril (muscle relaxant) do so. Pain killers mask pain, muscle relaxants actually work on the issue (if it's muscular). I love flexeril and ice.

Like bornagainst said... it affecting your hand could be a sign of a pinched nerve or disc trouble. Get it looked at. You don't want to mess around when it comes to your back/spine. Too many people I work with are slow to get care and wind up out injured for months after one final aggravates an injury and really puts them out.

Started therapy today, they want to do an MRI but I'm going to see how the therapy works. Looks like a herniated disk. :(

The good thing is that I started some muscle relaxers and some medicine for nerve pain. That along with the therapy and icing every two hours has given me back a bit of mobility and I can turn my head to the sides more this evening.

Feeling a bit drunk right now, LOL!
