It`s started! The slow crawl towards regulation :-(

On the BBC news this morning I just caught a small section that mentioned today at 1.00 there was to be a "Discussion" on the "Possible" regulation of electronic cigarettes.

The first thing I did once in from work and at my computer was simply Google "Uk regulation of electronic cigarettes" and came up with a lot of hits :-(

I`m currently reading through but thought I`d link one typical post from a typical mainstream UK newspaper picked at random from several I`m reading.

This quote made me laugh! How long have people been using nicotine in various forms??

"Dr Mike Knapton, Associate Medical Director at the British Heart Foundation, said more research was needed into the potential health implications of long-term nicotine use."

I believe (maybe cynically) that they see 1.3 million users who are not paying the extortionate tax levied on tobacco smokers and see an oppertunity to fill the coffers.
I honestly don`t believe its for the nations health!!

Yes...Just been reading about this...Thanks for the link I'm pretty depressed about all this as I've only been off the cigs for a couple of months and Its the only way that I've ever managed to quit for so long......

I expect that the powers that be are a little too worried about the lack of tax revenue from the ciggies to let vaping continue...A damned shame!

I only noticed the threads in the "legislation" sub-forum after I posted and have read through with interest.

I must admit (to my mind and way of thinking) there are some bizarre and un-concerned opinions posted?
I know 2016 seems a long way off but I would have expected a bit more concern from some, oh well.

A little off topic but I have seen legislation in action "for the public good" as far as Motor-cycling is concerned, changing the learner law capacity from 250-125cc, bringing in CBT (compulsory bike training), restriction of mopeds to 30mph etc and it always entails a greater financial cost to the end-user!
The only beneficiaries are the major players and Government.

As far as vaping is concerned I would like the freedom to be able to buy my devices and juice from a number of vendors and suppliers and not have to go to my doctor to get a presciption to be able to vape, or put up with regulated "deemed safe", in-effective, monopolised, expensive product that is produced by a company whose vested interest is in profit not quality and is only licensed because of lobbying and influence with the powers that be

I agree with everything you said, but this ^^^^^ in particular. For what it's worth, I think some of those opinions come from relatively new vapers who may not be familiar with the long, sordid history surrounding these regulations.

It is a testament to this forum that a lot of members are determined to be so darn positive all the time, but we should be very careful not to let that give way to ignorance.

There are now new laws concerning motorcycles :-
young riders 1st test = 125 only, 2 years later 2nd test = mid range bike, 2 years later 3rd test = any bike.
Unless you are 24 then go for the big one.

Ecigs will be no different, laws and regulations made by people who do not, or will not understand.

jSquared it is good to see so many positive views (I`ve found it`s the nature of most of the posters on ECF ) but fear some are living in a bubble that may be about to burst

Regulation of e-cigs will get rid of the dodgy products on the market, and there really are some. Unfortunately a large percentage of the good products that have helped people will also be removed from the market.

If the tobacco companies do monopolize the market, I think you'll just get the look-a-likes and little else. Imagine a vaping world ran by E-lites. *shudders*

E-Lites are already stating that they are "in a good position" to meet all the new regulation standards.
IF all the small liquid vendors can't meet the required demands or have the money to do the whole "medicine" things....we are looking at just a few brands of mini-look-a-likes. I personally won't be using or recommending any of them.
