Ok, I've been vaping a couple of weeks and have cut down the analogs to about 10 a day instead of 30-40 a day. I've read reviews of suppliers and juices to see what I would like. I've gone sometimes by high recommendation here on the forum about when and where to order my juices. I'm being a relatively good girl about trying to let juices steep a few days before trying to vape them....

Seriously, is this another one of those "It tastes just like chicken" kind of things?? (BTW, neither alligator nor frog legs tastes just like chicken to me.) I'm just not getting it! Nothing is tasting "just like" what they are supposed to taste like. When people say that something tastes like _______ are they saying that this is what it would taste like if you eating/drinking it? Or are they saying that it tastes just like what it would taste like if you were eating or drinking it while smoking a cigarette?

Are my taste buds just playing a trick on me? When I actually DO get a strong flavor from something, I am generally missing one or more "components" of the flavor. Peanut Butter cup I can taste the chocolate but not the peanut butter. Will "mounds", I can taste the coconut (when I'm lucky) but not taste the chocolate. When it's almond joy, I get nothing (just vapor and TH). With the caramel cappuccino, I get the coffee, a little cream and sugar, but no caramel!

Am I doing something wrong? Or do people really mean that this is what it tastes like if you're smoking tiramisu?

Heh - I'm sure you're not doing anything wrong, but there are a lot of factors here. For one thing, if you're still smoking some analogs each day, they're still messing with your taste buds. My sense of taste and smell both increased tenfold when I finally dropped the analogs entirely

Its also REALLY hard to make a vapor hit all the marks of almost any flavor - what we're "tasting" is really more like what we're "smelling" as we inhale/exhale. I frankly experience very little with the taste buds on my tongue when I'm vaping, mostly with my nose. Some food flavors (like salty flavors for example) can't be smelled at all, but are only experienced with specific taste buds. Makes some elements of common flavors hard to replicate in a vape

Also, the same juice can taste completely different, depending on what you're using to vape. i.e. a low-resistance atomizer can bump up the throat hit and vapor, but diminish the flavor. I've heard people say things like "On my blah-blah-x932 turbo, I can really taste both the chocolate and the raspberry, but on my M91-mini, all I can taste is the raspberry"

Lastly, one thing you'll find is a CONSTANT around here, is that taste is TOTALLY subjective, and what tastes accurate and awesome to one person, will taste nothing like it and horrible to the next. heh. The only way to really find your sweet spot is to experiment. Small, inexpensive sample sized bottles are a great way to test around

Hope it goes better for you!

People mean that it tastes exactly like -----, but taste is very subjective. What you like someone won't and vice versa.

Other things to consider:

Your taste buds are probably playing tricks on you.

Some vendors juice you just won't like. ( even if everyone else does)

You may need to let the juice steep longer. (I had a flavor that wasn't real great and put it in the bad of the cabinet and forgot about it for 6 weeks or so. When I tried it again - OMG, it's fabulous)

hope that helps.

I'm not doing very well in the taste dept. right now either. All I have are tobacco flavors all of which taste exactly the same and sometimes like nothing at all. I'm just grateful that it cuts the craving for analogs so I'm ok with it. I'm just hoping it is due to dead taste buds due to smoking and that it will improve over time. My RY4 is the only one that still has some flavor, but it has been dropping off lately as well.

I can understand your frustration. I have been though the same. I order something that people rave...just to find out it sucks. I even let the stuff age/steep as well. What I have been doing is just buying small sample sizes. This way I can give it away or mix the crappy ones with some of the full flavor liquids. I really believe it is hit or miss with some of the vendors. One's taste may vary. I am very fussy on my flavors as well. If I get just one crappy flavor..I move on to the next vendor. I am even thinking about mixing my own. (Unfortunatly, I don't know how to start!) I would never recomend any vendor for juice. I would only recomend them if their cost is fair and service as well. I believe they are in a business to provide products...I won't be a fangirl ever....unless their willing to pay me megabucks! LOL

Thanks for all of your responses. I know that tastes are subjective--otherwise everyone would love broccoli casserole and no one would eat grapefruit. And I'm not ready to dump any juices yet. There are none of them (yet) that I found THAT bad--just not what I was expecting. And I'm going between my eGo with cartos and dripping onto the atty of the 510 with a PT--no noticeable difference in the flavors. I'll just keep some of them in a cardboard box in a cabinet and try to forget about them for a couple of months. :(

I tried to steer clear from the tobacco flavors because I wanted to get away from tobacco. Fortunately, one of the vendors slipped in a sample of Ry4 to me. That was the first thing that I really TASTED! But there was nothing to compare it to as in the instance of "peach" which for me has a vague "peachy tobacco" type flavor, but not that of a real peach.

Unfortunately, you are still trained to taste with your tongue because you're still smoking. If you can leave the analogs alone for about 3 days, you will start to "train" the receptors in your brain to taste through your sense of smell. It took me a while to do this. I went through a period where nothing taste really good because it wasn't strong enough or sweet enough. For instance, grape. You think, okay it must taste like eating a grape. Strong and sweet tasting. Wrong. The flavor is there but weak and very little sweetness. It takes a while before flavors get better but it won't as long as you still smoke. Leave the stinkies alone for a few days and just vape. Drink lots of water to help flush all the crap out of your system that you've been ingesting for years. What tastes good to someone may not be that good to you. It stinks when you first start out vaping. Money spent trying to find that sweet spot to make you give up the analogs. When you find one that works, stay with it. Happy vaping.

LOL. I really enjoyed your post chimney55, and the replies above too. Yeah, vaping is like that to me to. I DIY so I can tweak the flavors 'till I like em, but... it is never exactly the same. You can get some good flavors though. You have to shop around until you find something that you like.

There is a phenomenon of "flavor loss" where your taste buds get burnt out on a flavor, or a particular juice recipe seems to "fade" out. IDK if we have every really nailed that one down. Ask about it and you'll get as many reasons as replies. The peanut butter flavor that I use is STRONG. It's easy to use too much and over-power the juice. So your example is interesting. Chocolate is also strong.

Also, different atties produce different flavor, so do different voltages and different juice mix ratios (PG/VG). lol.

I've come to the conclusion that you just need to find a combination that works for you and your setup. And the "fanboys" be damned. Try samplers. Or DIY. Have healthy skepticism for all the kiss-... reviews, and just try some yourself. Also, to be fair to the vendors, you will find that you like some flavors from a vendor and not others from that same vendor. So there may be no single "go to" for all possible flavors. Just IMHO.

This next part is probably going to get me in trouble:

Lastly, remember that you probably smoked burning tobbacco that tasted like crap but you got used to it and may even have been convinced that one brand of crap tasted better than another brand of crap. So.. hey.... I wouldn't take vaping flavors too seriously. I think that vaping a flavor is somewhere between enjoying a fine wine, and wiping your posterior with it. Flavor is important to vaping and giving up analogs, but I wouldn't sweat it if it doesn't taste exactly like you think it should. It's more important that you like the flavor, so that you can kick the analogs (if that is your goal).

Unfortunately, the first juices that I ordered about 2 weeks ago were too low in nicotine. They just weren't "cutting it". So, now, I'm getting higher mgs but they need to 'age'. I have more on order at higher mgs (which when they FINALLY arrive, they'll go into a cool dark place to age. Hopefully, I'll eventually get off of the analogs long enough to taste something.

I'm a peanutbutter-a-holic. There's NO SUCH THING as a too strong of a peanut butter flavor!

This is true. I've been a slave of analogs for over 37 years and have traveled to a few different places. I've adjusted to just about any kind of "crap" that could get me my nicotine fix. (If you've ever smoked "Gitanes" or "Gauloise" you'd know what I mean. After 2 years of smoking them, I still thought that they tasted like dirty gym socks on fire!) I've only changed "brands" because of finances not because of taste. If I choose a certain brand to smoke, it's not because it "tastes good", but because it didn't taste as crappy as the others.

When I first started vaping, I could hardly taste anything. I knew my taste buds were in chaos, so I just gave it some time. Here I am, almost a month a half later after giving up analogs entirely, and there are still some things I just can't taste. I think I've narrowed it down, though, and I just like stronger flavors. I don't mean flavors like CinnaBomb or Atomic Cinnacide. I mean double flavors or flavors that are strong to begin with, like Creme De Menthe or mint. I've started ordering double flavor juices and it's ecstasy to my tongue. Just a thought...

If you smoked 2 packs a day, you will probably need to start at 24mg. Another way to age it quicker is to remove the cap and dripper from the bottle and put it in your cabinet for a day or two.

Yeah, first couple of days, I was "trying" to vape 12mg because I'd been smoking lights for so long. Then I ordered mostly 18mg with some 24mg. Recently, I've ordered just 24 mg. Just waiting for them to "age".

On most flavors I just get a hint of it. I have found that the coffee flavors are stronger also lotus flower is good. Right now I am vaping vanilla butternut and toffee. Let them steep for a bit, clean out your atty good when changing flavors and after a few weeks without any cigarettes it will improve. Since I have stopped smoking the flavor gets better everyday. Exhale through your nose that helps. Or through the nose and mouth.

This could be more intersting than I thought - I'm Synesthesic, which means my senses are Cross-wired. Food can taste Blue, or yellow or, well any other colour. It can be "pointy" or smooth, or Bumply. Smells can Smell yellow, or green or purple...Now hairball is talking about tasting with my nose, which, I know there is scientific reasoning behind, but... OH wow ! Am I gonna have some fun !

Chimney... I am a peanut butter-a-holic too....but peanut or peanut butter liquids are all nasty to me !! (taste IS subjective! LOL !)

oh! If they're nasty, then maybe I'm better off not tasting them! (I'll just keep my jar of Jif with honey next to me when I vape. If I ever can taste chocolate...)

Taste is subjective, totally agree.

Also some flavors shine on higher voltage. (example: ms ts bakery snickerdoodle cookies sucked on ego for me, tasted flat. Tastes more complex at 4.5 or so on the buzz. Weird)

Also taste is suggestive! My bwb Peach which is a fav tastes JUST like peach to me, skin and pulp. I had 2 friends try it without telling them what it was. One said grape. One said grapefruit.

So I shop for pleasant flavors with an allowance I would have spent on packs of smokes. Also suggest picking up a Buzz. Crazy amazing hit and taste. I was skeptical. Now I'm not. :D
