Was going to vape on my SVD when I noticed it wasn't firing followed by a wierd smell.

Loaded inside was a Protected a Panasonic NCR18650PD.

Didn't see any smoke but was curious if my battery had shorted.

Placed a different Un-protected NCR18650PD and as I was screwing it in smoke or battery fumes were pouring out of the SVD's firing button. Not sure it vented this battery, although unlike a mech mod the SVD's tube was not crazy hot nor was the battery. I've never hardshorted a hybrid or IMR battery so I don't know what that might smell like.

Both batteries were placed positive side up. I'm familiar with battery safety but not sure what's going on. I'm not putting another battery in here I'm just curious as to what's happening.... Both battery contacts on the SVD appear fine. This didn't happen whilst chain vaping but rather out of the blue.

Both batteries were freshly charged and were bought in January.

Edit: Took off the Kayfun, screwed in same batteries, placed Kayfun back on and everything works again. Now that I think of it the batteries couldn't have vented through the firing button b/c the battery area is sealed off. Just really curious where the smoke was coming from.

Edit #2: I bought the same SVD and batteries for my father. Compared contacts with his and nothing seems out of place on mine. Screwed his batteries the same way as I usually do and his is fine. I'm guessing my problem might stem from the chipset on my SVD?

I wouldn't use the device anymore. It sounds like something shorted out inside it...and that could cause it to no longer protect your batteries like it should and they could vent in that scenario.

Is it under warranty? Can you return it for a replacement?

Luckily I've only been using this for morning and afternoon commute. Yea I don't think I'll use it anymore. It's not a big loss.

I bought it from Fasttech around Dec. 20th, I'll have to check if it is under warranty.

My SVD sure smells funky now tho, kind of like a Tennis Ball.

Was the battery hot when you took it out?

I would not use a protected battery with a variable voltage device. Safe chemistry batteries only. There is no point if your device has built in safety features, and I've heard that if protection fails on a battery bad things happen.

Nope, mentioned it up top. Tube wasn't hot either. At first I thought it was the battery venting, but when you look inside, the battery area is sealed off from venting up towards where the button is.

Sorry, I missed that. The battery would likely be uncomfortably hot or too hot to touch if it was venting. Could it have been vapor that got caught inside the unit somehow?
