Just curious this is going to be my next equip purchase, was there a problem with the original lesser rivets or something? Wanted to get the black or chameleon and think it looks better without the extra rivets, but if it makes a better product I can live with them. Does anyone know?

I have two of them without rivets. I'm not 100% sure but I think they are the same except plus rivets to keep them together. There was some problems reported of pulling out the press fit pieces especially when disconnecting from the usb charger.
I have had the original for about 5 weeks and while I have not had problems, if the manufacturer thinks there's enough of a problem to change production, I'd buy the "improved" version. 
I have 2 VV v2s, and 2 VV v3s. The v2s do not have ANY rivets, and I have not had any issues with them coming apart. The v3s have a single rivet on the back of the housing, and again, I have not had any problems with them. 4 batteries total, 2 with no rivets, and 2 with a single rivet, and no issues. I am absolutely certain that the additional rivets were added for a reason, but have never had an issue with mine that made me think I needed more rivets to hold them together. I suspect that if you are a little cautious with them and take care of them, you will likely never have any issues regardless of how many rivets are in it. As always, ... YMMV!

Mine are both vv3 and have no rivets, once when disconnecting from the charger I felt one of them slide out a little but caught it soon enough and just pushed it back in. Now when I disconnect them I hold the bottom while pulling. Not a big deal just something to get use to.

The USB connector can be tight on some of these. There were reports of pulling the USB cable would cause the bottom to separate from the case. I have a VV3 without the extra rivets and never had an issue. Of course I heard of the issue so I am careful disconnecting the USB cable.
The black one I got does have the extra rivets.
I figure innokin knows what they are doing but, I like the single rivet a little better. With the double rivets on the side, it feels somewhat the same to your thumb as the fire button, so in the dark you may have to search for the fire button a little bit. I have trained my self to search for the single rivet with my index finger, then I know my thumb is facing the battery button.
If you want a 6 rivet authentic version, I got mine here. It had the extra rivets and the box had the scratch off authenticity sticker which cross referenced to Innokin's website as being authentic.
