iTaste VV v3 super hot battery problem

So my gf kept her iTaste VV in her large spacious handbag. Somehow I suspect one of the button got held down and the battery became so hot it seared her skin when she tried to grab it. It was hot enough to melt plastic.

I was a bit surprised, concerned, and dissapointed. Doesn't the iTaste VV have safety mechanisms to protect against basic issues like this? Do I have a lemon? Anyone else experience this?

+1 On the battery being faulty, i hope you disposed of it.

Good to know. I ordered 2 VV from fasttech last month and got them a few days ago. One had a broken ohm meter (always reads NON) and the other one apparently overheats.

I ordered 3 more to see how it goes since I (read my gf) liked the form factor.

Not feeling real confident with innokin products right now. :(.

Wish provari looked nicer since we'd carry that around more.

I have never had any problems with my itaste vv3. Kind of amazing that you got two duds! Maybe you should try buying on ebay. I got mine there for $29.95. Just search until you find what you are looking for at a good price.

I've not had the best (but not the worst) luck in the rash of MVP 2's that came out cheap lately. One doesn't always read the ohms accurately, and I had to tweak it to get it to charge to 4.2. They both get warm when in use. Word out and about, some of the later cheaper releases of products (this includes toppers), have quality control issues. The ONLY way I see to avoid this is made in USA, and I don't see a lot of options yet, so stuck with mvp's, iclears, aspires, and kangertechs :vapor:

Not sure it's a good idea to buy built in batteries from fasttech. From what I've seen, they can sell 2nds or irregulars (or the defective clones). It's the Vape version of the Dollar Store, which might be OK for chrome plated RBA, but not something like a MVP or V3...

Store bought at least is factory direct firsts...

Yeah really bummed. I specifically avoided buying from ebay to make sure I get a brand new device. I also wanted a shop that won't dissapeared overnight so I can get customer support and such.

I got a dozen+ ecigs so not really in a rush to replace the VVs.

I can live with a broken ohm meter but the overheating battery on the second VV is scary.

I don't mind dropping decent cash for devices. It's saved me a ton of money already in $10+k range over the past few years. Yes WA tax is insane. Now, if I want to get authentic innokin devices where should I go? Doesn't help that a lot of the B&M store get their stuff from fasttech either. Can I order less than 5 devices at a time from innokin directly?

Get your validation for coops/classifieds here... you can get some really good deals in the coops, and they are all authentic. (Verfied member).

Actually, I bought one MVP 2 from WA state, the other from Oklahoma. Didn't buy any fasttech nor eBay items. The word is, the remainder stock is lacking in quality control. I purchased authentic, and fasttech fake batteries on MVP 2s are a myth, but seconds could be the truth.

I think a lot of people would disagree with this statement. For the amount of items that Fasttech sells I am sure they are going to get duds just like the B&M's.
Some of the Fasttech clones are better than Hcigar clones. I can attest to this myself.

Why only 'some' if they are firsts? I absolutely agree that any factory can send defects too, and when a mech or RBA is a 2nd, it can be things like burs or scratches, but a battery defect can have dangerous consequences. A VV V3 or MPV2 are built in batteries, you can't swap them out if they are defective. Not quite the same thing as a mech mod where a defect can be cosmetic. These are actually the first 2 VV V3's I've heard of anyone buying on Fasttech, so can't say I have experience with this, but how many retail store VV V3's have you heard of that were defective? Maybe there's a bad batch floating around... which is WHY they are being sold on Fasttech? Last time I looked at Fasttech, they didn't have any.

Hey... Balloons at the local Dollar Store are fantastic and 1/2 the price of Party City, so I like the Dollar Store (if you need a few dozen balloons, that's the place to go!). There are some good items at Fasttech too I'm sure, even if I haven't seen any, but I take your word that HCigar clones can be good. How do you know it's a clone and not the 2nds or irregulars of the real thing?

From the items I've seen and tried myself, they sell some real garbage too. Example, I bought about a dozen juice bottles with needle drippers. They are way too small a gauge to push VG blends out of... you squish and squish. The plastic quality is awful compared to 'normal' cheap plastic bottles. Even there, you save sure, but again, dollar store quality and function, they work, but are worse quality plastic than ordinary plastic packaging. If I use mostly 100% PG, it would be a much smaller problem, so there's a use for everything. The deals are sometimes worth trying there anyway, but you do tend to get what you pay for.

I'm surprised. Was it turned on when she put it in her purse? It shouldn't be able to turn itself on. I've had mine for almost 8 weeks, but I carry it in a mini cloth case I made, goes in a pocket on the outside of my purse, and I never put it in there turned on.

Not sure but given how frequently it's used mistakes can happen. The circuit protection and other safety mechanism should be there to prevent simple mistakes from turning into a catastrophic one. Our device may have just been faulty but we're definitely paranoid now.

They have a 10 second time-out on the button, and short circuit protection... so there'd have to be an internal fault.

Wonder if the timeout period itself has a timeout. For example if I hold the button down it may shutdown after 10sec but turn back on after another 10sec. The staggered discharge could accumulate enough heat to burn. I'll have to test this out.
