Hey everyone,
New here but not new to vaping; been on the wagon for over two and a half years, not a cig-puff since I started
Anyways I've 'evolved' into the rba world and thought I'd dive right in; got an Ithaka a few months ago and have a Just GG in the mail. Just amazing products from Imeo; makes everything else I've ever used (and I've gone through A LOT of different vape toys!) feel/look like cheap junk.
Anyway, my question is regarding the Ithaka but might apply to any RBA. I'm finding a consistent vape very difficult to achieve with this atty. I LOVE it when it's working right; nothing I've used compares. The problem is it seems there's a very short window where it's 'right'. Here is my usual pattern;
1. Build atty using COV 1.8 ready wires and 3mm silica. Doing everything right as far as I can tell. Single-coil, simple.
2. Day 1 is break in time; tastes a little funny for a few hours but starts hitting nicely soon after.
3. Days 2-3 are usually bliss; amazing flavour, throat-hit, everything just perfect.
4. By day 4, the problems start. Flavour fades, vapour production lowers.
5. Day 5 and it tastes awful. I open the atty and am horrified by what I see; a blackened wick, black, sooty residue on the inside of the atty. I'll take the atty apart and unwind the coil from the wick. It looks 'charred', with nasty residue all over. The wicks are nice and wet so I don't feel it's a feeding issue. I unwind the coil and burn off the 'crust' that's all over it. Last night I actually took a lighter and burned the wick and coil. I noticed spots of hard, black 'stuff' stuck to the wick in certain places. After the burning/cleaning process, I re-build and it seems good to go.
I guess I have a few issues here. I'm worried I'm burning wick and inhaling silica, but I've read this isn't really possible. I wonder why the lifespan on these builds is so short, and why the 'bliss' of days 2-3 isn't sustainable.
I'm using Halo juice exclusively, usually Tiki. Any help/recommends from the experts out there would be much appreciated. It's my first post, a long one, but I'm excited to reach out to the community for help on this!
