I have this crazy thought that the ''original'' makers of these mods sold out to the ''cloners''How do we know they didnt sell out to the ''cloners'' ,like sell mass products at cheaper prices and take a cut,its very possible.Id rather sell a 10,000 mods at 20 bucks than a 1000 at 200,no difference,EXCEPT...more ''exposure''.

You sound like you are right, maybe thats why ''Vela'' only produced 999 Mods at 200/piece.They knew the chinese would come in.At least Pedro made a 1/4 mill and knew the chinese would take over.Im just trying to figure out why the ''orginal'' guys stopped and have limited editions.

Why would the cloners "pay" the inventors when they could simply steal the design for free? You do know that's what they do, right? China doesn't care about international patents.

You are correct,Me thinks the original makers knew the chinese would take over, this is why Vela and company only made a 1000 at 200 each.At least they made 1/4 mill.

EX: an artist paints... sometimes they make limited edition prints.

limited edition creates a sense of urgency to buy and helps justify a $200 inflated price point.

Many "collectors" feel a sense of urgency when they follow an artist. They will either buy the original or pay for a "limited edition".
I suppose there isn't much difference in creating this type of art

I can understand the Chinese copying an original design like the Kayfun, but to also copy the original manufacturers logo and put the original manufacturers name on the box just has to be in violation of all kinds of copyright laws and intellectual property laws.

Like I said in another similar thread; The communist Chinese government won't lift a finger to stop these Chinese manufacturers from doing it either.

Manufacturers in most other countries would not be able to get away doing this for fear of some very expensive lawsuits, but I guess in China ... anything goes

They (the Chinese) could care less about patent laws too.
