Wow! This forum Rocks! When I saw this thread I almost died. I have Type 2 Diabetes and just ordered my first e-cig kit a few days ago. (should be here tomorrow) I've been so exited to start vaping and for a minute i thought I wouldn't be able to.

After reading a few threads here it seems that vaping shouldn't effect my blood sugar. I will monitor my levels though and report back.

Welcome, and that is the way to use the forum! There are hundreds of posts on the subject, would take forever for someone to start picking through searches and re-posting links, but if anyone has a problem with a serious issue about anything it has probably been discussed to some degree. When you post back, rather that start a new thread, find an appropriate one no matter how old, when you post it will be front and center again. There are also some SOCIAL GROUPS that address Health problems, check those out as well.
Good luck to you!

Hmm that tread makes me feel like maybe it's just me.
I don't know but I can feel the effects of it, the fennel , brandy, and caramel flavors are some that I can really feel the effect.
Maybe if I just use the tobacco flavors.

I do know that they should be able to make some good flavors without sweetners.

It has long been known that nicotine and other chemicals in traditional cigarettes can interact with blood sugar level stabilization. It is quite possible that using e-cigs, in which you are not getting those chemicals and much less nicotine, that your body is trying to adjust. If you are a diabetic, it is advised, as I'm sure you know, to keep your doctor aware of your situation...

My NOW brand vegetable glycerin says on the 'uses' that it can be used as part of a low glycemic diet as a sweetner.... my son is on a low glycemic diet due to his high chances of developing diabetes from his dad's side. A low GI diet is what they put diabetic patients on... anyhoo, it would seem to me that if VG was used there wouldn't be a problem. Nic in itself has no sugars that I have heard of and the flavors they use for the juice are also sweetned with artficial sweetners, correct? So this is very odd to me. I don't have blood sugar issues that I'm aware of. I wonder now if this could cause peoples sugar to rise even if they arent diabetic? When I was on Chantix to help me quit smoking my sugar went high out of the blue so they took me off of it... they now have to list that on the Chantix side effects

Stress can raise your blood sugar levels.....maybe quitting smoking has lead to more mental stress, elevating your blood sugar level.
Talk to your docotr.

You know thats so true. Also, when you quit analogs you didnt just quit one addictive substance. There are so many chemicals in analogs that your brain becomes accustomed to so when you quit smoking you're not just getting past the nicotine withdrawal, it's a ....-load of crap. My neighbor who is a chemist and professor at A&M explained all this to me the first week I was vaping because I was still feeling some kind of withdrawals. It will take some time for your body to adjust. I'm sorry you're going through this and it is a shame you had to go back to analogs :(

I am borderline diabetic and I'm not even fat! 5'11 160. Since I've quit smoking I've been doing 2 miles per day on treadmill @ 3.5 mph and an incline for 34 min's per day. I'm really sweating good when I get off the treadmill, though I'm not breathing very hard at all, just moderately. I think smoking was affecting my cardiovascular system more than my lungs. I can tell you exercise can control blood sugar really well! You will be kind of tuckered out when you finish but after you recover you will notice you have more energy. Try to walk moderately 30 min's per day

If youre afraid of things with sugar in them, there are lots of DIY threads with some awesome sounding recipes in it, but it may be a good idea to find out whats causing that for you.... I have to say, if there was too much sugar it would definately make a caramel substance on and around the atomizer after a bit of vaping, and so far I've hears no such story. I think the person that said your stress levels from quitting could be causing your body changes... Also saw someone say ask your doctor... imo, shoulda done this before buying with having such a serious case of diabetes. Definately think its a good idea before using it again, but I dont think its a reason to give up. Hope that helps

I can't blame vaping for my weight gain, last year I got down to 135 (5'2") and felt great, but about Thanksgiving time I started putting the 15# I had lost back on, very slowly and surely. Now back to 150# again, but have stayed static (with a lot of food urges fought off!) Almost 5 months vaping. But my appetite is wild, I really think it is from decreased nicotine. Better smell, taste, and energy, which would also contribute I am quite sure. Was curious about the PG and VG but can't find anything to corroborate that, but know there's 432 calories in 100 g of VG. Not a huge amount per milligram. So that's out! Just need to jump up my metabolism somehow, I work hard but that's apparently not enough. I tried a Carnitine supplement for "fat busting" but could see no benefit for a $30 a month supplement. Made me more energetic, but just as hungry. No weight loss. It's frustrating.

Durant, Ok
I've seen this same thing at least twice before and they all make me raise an eyebrow to the subject.

Why?

Because I'm hypoglycemic (sp?)... the opposite of diabetic for those who don't know. I vape like a freight train and I still get low blood sugar at the same intervals that I always did before. (I have a bad habit of forgetting to eat) if anything I've been having MORE cases of low blood sugar than I did on analogs since with vaping I eat even less than I did before.

I'm not trying to call the OP a lier, but if vaping has made their blood sugar sky rocket like they say then wouldn't logic stand to suggest that it would, at the very least, bring mine closer to level??

Now if they're using VG instead of PG then that might be a possibility since I don't really like VG so I use it very rarely so maybe there is something down that avenue, but I'm not buying an increase in blood sugar due to PG.

Although glycerine is a carbohydrate, it has a different metabolic effect on the body. Unlike typical carbohydrates, glycerine reportedly has minimal impact on blood sugar levels. You should still count the calories (4.3 calories per gram) you are consuming from this product, since even a low carbohydrate diet needs some calorie control, but you do not need to worry about disrupting ketosis because there is no evidence that glycerine effects either insulin or blood sugar, which is the way that normal carbohydrates disrupt ketosis.

Just a thought but isn't one of propylene glycol's (not glycerine's) uses to prevent ketosis in cattle? I don't know much about diabetes but this stood out.

The one thing all diabetic's will hear from their doctor is that their sugar is getting worse!
Yep it seems all the liquids for our e-cigs contain sugar.
I asked around and this seems to be the case with all liquids, for some reason the makers haven't taken us into account.

I'm not sure about you but I would rather take my chances with cigarettes then to cut my life short with diabeties.
I take the pills right now but the doctor is talking about putting me on insulin because my sugar is getting to high.
What was 150 and lower is now in the 200's and 300's so I will put away all my stuff ( what a huge waste $$$ ) I have a lot of it, kits and juice, pipes and e-cigs and I have dug my cigs out of the closet and am once again smoking.
Cancer may never happen but diabeties can kill you for sure.

It's killing me.
I've spent over $2,000 maybe over $3,000 so far stocking up so I would have supplies when or if they ban these things.
Well I did outfit 5 of my relatives and their partners with e-cigs and liquids and they love them as well.
I love these things so I have 4 pipes, two lady pipes, 8 DSE801's , 10 DSE901's and various parts and liquids and 3 401's and an E8 and EM9 kit.
There's just to much to list and I can't use it because of sweetner's.

Any Help would be great.
Yeah I know this will probably not help posting here but I have to try.
HELP???

Vg breaks down into glucose
PG breaks down into lactic acid.

My blood sugars have increased from 75-120 to 180-230 since I started 1 1/2 yrs ago.
I did not know why until this week.
The last few months I have not been vaping as much (did not exactly quit but the output and amount I vaped with drastically decreased) and my atomizers were not putting out.
I recently purchased new LR atomizers and new liquid this past weekend and started vaping on Monday a.m.
My sugars immediately increased but I do not know if it is the PG/VG mixture or the nicotine.
I dont suspect its just the nicotine as I smoked 1.5 to 2 packs of cigs each day and had better bg control. I have also dipped on rare occasions, and noticed no increase in bg levels the last 1.5 yrs.
I am using 12mg with a 60/40 mix PG/ VG
My fastings have increased as well./ I check my bg 3-4 times daily and this increase is not because I just recently quit smoking as I stopped 1.5 yrs ago.
I 1st noticed the increase 1.5 yrs ago but was puzzled- now feel there is a definite connection. The common denominators are the liquid and increased usage.
