So - I'm wondering - what's up with the new tube sticking up out of the Stardust? :) I mean, how is it better? (I thought, personally, the Stardust was pretty brilliant as it was)

IMHO the original stardust was brilliant, but people figured out how to extend their life past the manufactures goals by taking them apart to clean/rewick/rewire. The new tube sticking up appears just a manufacturers mod to stop us from taking these apart (you'll mess it up using any of the published methods). The orginal configuration had a little metal piece under the silicon cap and Robbie's demonstration of the hammer method to disassemble the stardust messed it up a little, but it was still functional - now it probably won't be. By extending the metal cap up into the driptube you'll distort it trying to press out the innards unless you use a modified dowel and press it out (not hammer). The old seal to the mouthpiece worked fine but this way they can sell more stardusts when people can't fix them.

people where paying 15 to 20 bucks for ego-ts are a year ago and couldnt clean those and they rarely worked, Can you really blame them, these puppies are 6 bucks and are a full carto for your ego, not to shabby and if your wise enough like you and the rest of the gang are youll be able to extend these as well. To be honest they arent taking pre-emotive measures at blocking you all from cleaning them, the tighter tube in the second batch should be looked at for what it was, they where coming back from holidays and where 3 weeks behind, them and all factories, So thats where i think that came into play

as with the new top peace, thats 100% not a ploy to destroy your carto nor is it the ego vision stardust protective system, lol , they did that to completly seal the unit after you place the mouth peace which works similar to the vision inner plugs which have become famous for what they do. This was done to improve the product and not impede modders.

the reason the old one wasnt the perfect seal is this, some inner tubes are tilted , this could leave a gap between the mp and the silicone plug on the main tube, this solves that and seals the unit further.

I never made any claims with the stardust, i didnt help build it etc. but I speak to the people at the factory and the people watching the floor daily, input is passed along, ideas are listened to and sometimes used, ideas from posters are tested when the idea sparks the interest of the engineers there. I asked about this new addition so I am just letting you all know.

Well - can you get the cap out to dry burn it with this new gismo? I haven't really been disassembling them, mostly, but just getting the silicone hat out through the top by hooking it with a dental tool. Can't do that with the tube...

I switch between coffee or chocolate juices and fruit juices, and with either of them i can't get the taste out of the wick without dry burning, no matter how much you soak in alcohol... Or the crud, for that matter.

I don't remove anything, I just wash and then dry burn in 5 second bursts until I can see the coil glow BUT will I still be able to see the coil glow through this elongated tube?

The silicone doesn't singe from this? Even with the metal insert, I'm surprised if not...

No cup burns at all. Drawback to not taking them apart is it takes much longer to dry. I just keep firing till I dry off the water, but it's so much easier to dab the wick dry when it's apart.

Briar, I've been cycling between 3 stardusts since December. I've washed each of them maybe 6-8 times. After washing them I don't wait for them to dry out, I just start firing them right away. I fire for 5 seconds then wait 5 seconds and may have to repeat this up to 20 times for each stardust. It's usually about 15 burns before any smoke comes out (I suppose since the wicks are wet it's technically not a dry burn until the wick has dried out). A few dry burns and a fair bit of smoke later I can see the coil glow and they're ready for use immediately. Until yesterday I hadn't experienced any problems whatsoever but one of them took a lot more dry burns than usual to see the coil glow and the white silicon on that one is looking less than white (I haven't tried it yet).
