I just graduated from highschool. i actually attended a boarding school where i started smoking. I admit it was because the only thing i would have in common with the other kids. (hard to be in a place where your forced to get along with everyone) so smoking is what i did to fit in.

Ever since i got home I havent been smoking quite as often as i did up there.
but i did find out that i am now smoking for a totally different reason then when i had first started a year ago. I really dont want to say im addicted, but i have cravings for it all the time, the only thing that holds me back is my girlfriend who hates me smoking. I meen its extremely therapeutic for me now a days.

I told her about these e cigs, she thinks there alot more healthier. and is still slightly bothered but not nearly as much as with analog cigs.

Is she right about them being alot healthier? i know its only water vapor.

If i started i do plan on using nicotine, does it give me the same amazing affect as a regular cig?

I plan on enlisting in the marines in a couple months. im wondering if this would be a good alternative to smoking before i actually got sent off anywhere.

I guess the one thing im trying to find out is if this is right for me? I know alot of you on this forum dont like seeing people smoking because it kind of defeats the purpose of switching over to e-cigs. do you think i can benefit from this?

Dude,

Only you can decide if it's "right for you". Many of us started smoking for the same reason that you did. And to tell you the truth, after so many years I couldn't tell you exactly when I came to the same conclusion that you have. In my opinion, and it's just an opinion, stopping cold turkey would be a good option. I base that on the fact that you probably don't have all of the "extras" that us long time smokers have had as an incentive to continue smoking. All of those social things that have become part of our lives over the years. It's almost as hard to break that habit as it is the addiction. I wish you the best.

im really leaning toward saying yes this is a pretty good compromise for myself. but ive never tried an e-cig before and i dont want to waste my money on something that isnt just as therapeutic as a real cig.

I am going to tell it to you without all the frills..if you plan to join the Military, you may find that they won't let you vape or smoke! They are getting very strick about this stuff. You will be controlled for the first 6 weeks, so there won't be a chance to sneak off. Your things will be searched often..so no hiding anything!
You are wrong about us not liking to see smokers, a lot of people on here smoke as well as vape. Our goal is not quitting, but giving people an alternative. You will find people on here supportive of you, as I am. But until you get to your first duty station and see what the mood is toward cigarettes and vaping is..you might concider a patch or gum.
If you do decide to vape..hopefully it will help you transition off cigarettes and ultimatly ease your way into quitting for the Military. You will need every breath you can get for basic!
As the wife of a retired Military man..good luck on your service and thank you!

Unfortunately, there is no "proof" that an e-cigarette is works as a cessation device. Many of us have picked one up, simply because the FDA approved devices have failed miserably. All I can add is that it worked for me, as well as tens of thousands of smokers, but hey, that's not proof as far as the FDA and special interest groups such as ASH are concerned.

thank you so much. and i totally forgot about not being able to smoke for basic, not to mention the marines are twice as long. maybe i just need to face that i cant smoke anymore.

although i know when i get out of basic and am actually sent somewhere where i have more freedom, ill have urges to just start doing it again. but thank you for the info, i had almost totally forgot about the 13 weeks of training.

anyway hopefully I can decide by the end of this week. or ill just try to quit (which i really dont wanna do cus i actually enjoy smoking) .

Nobody enjoys it more then I do! But I am facing facts when I say there are too many problems with smoking! For me vaping is good, but for you..well the hand to mouth is just as addictive as the nic and the other chemicals..it is for me.
Do you and your sweet girlfriend a favor and at least try to quit..start running! Go to a gym, get busy with something and get a headstart on basic!
We are here to help you on your way. There is a whole forum in here devoted to quitting and alternatives. Whatever you do, I wish you all the best!

I enjoyed it immensely when I was your age as well. But as time went on, I came to realize that while I still enjoyed it, the long term effects were not worth it. Yet I couldn't quit. And here I am, 30 years later. Finally not smoking despite numerous attempts to quit. Finally happy that I did, and praying that it was not too late. Not for my sake, but for my children's sake.
