I've had my e-cig for almost a year. Still smoking 20-25 'analog' cigarettes daily & need a plan.

Also I've found that if there is a specific time that you tend to get cravings for a real cig make sure that you start hitting your pv harder before that time. I found that I would get a nasty craving in the car in the morning on the way to work and really didn't use my pv before I got to the car. I found that if I pull my pv out as soon as i get in the car and hit it pretty constantly that I didn't crave so bad and could get through it. I still haven't been able to get rid of my night time cigs, but I'm down from 2packs+ a day to under a quarter of a pack a day. I haven't given up and maybe I should take my own advice :)

0. You really have to want to quit smoking, or this is just a waste of your time.
1. Go buy a pack (not a carton!) of cigarettes that you don't normally smoke. Say Marlboro REDs.
2. Put them in the car with a pack of matches.
3. You get to smoke 3-4 a day. 1 in the morning, 1 after lunch, 1 after dinner, 1 before bed.
4. Use your PV all other times. Use it in the house, at the computer, in the car, etc etc...
5. At some point, you will realise what a PITA it is to get those cigarettes out of the car, light them with a match, and then find out that they tast like cr@p. So with that, cut down to 1 after lunch and 1 after dinner.
6. At some point you will realise you dont need them. Stop.
7. After a week or so try a cigarette. Bet it tastes like real cr@p now and leaves a nasty film all over your mouth, makes you stink like an ashtray, and overall is not very satisfying. Bet you can't smoke it all without choking on it.

Note: Suggest 24mg nicotine liquid for quitting time in a flavor you like. BTW: You will experience DT's because of the other chemicals in cigarettes. Drink a lot of water and lay off the caffeine and alchohol.

The above plan worked for me and my wife smokes (still). What helped me was she changed brands. They tasted like cr@p so it helped a lot.

I detailed my car for hours inside and out. I put hours cleaning the inside to get the smoke smell out of the car. The carpet, windows, seats, everywhere. This was my first step to say, I am only going to vape in my car. Then worked to Washing my jacket, and said, I will only vape in this jacket so it wont smell. I did the same on and on, until I I had some many controls in place that it was easier to vape then smoke.... Maybe strange, but it worked... :)

Happy New Year everyone! Sorry for the late reply. Between working, prepping to move to Florida in, trying to find a car to buy, stressing out about smoking, and New year's events...I've been busy.

While offline, I was doing a random half analog half digital smoking. Like Wendy says, Any less smoking is better. At the bar last night, my kissbox suddenly went MIA. Being New Years eve, we were pretty lit & I lost track of it. Until replacements arrive, I'm back to analogs. Definitely upping the juice dosage.

Ive been thinking about the "Why choose analog over digital?" question. I'll finish this post in the morning...I'm super tired.

Thanks for everything! You guys are helping me in HUGE ways. By for now. Jack

I gotta agree with all the other advice.

1. Chain vape and drink lots of water...lol, it's fun, it tastes good, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. I carry mine around, in my hand, every flipping day. It's never far away from my side. Call it pacifier, call it horse manure...lol, I don't care. I have quit smoking forever!
2. Don't stress over "quitting". A lot of people, just suddenly find themselves one day and they realize they have gone two days without a ciggie. It just happens, especially when you hit that "sweet spot". It can happen the first day, it can happen whenever. It just happens.
3. Up the nicotine! I only smoked a half pack a day, and I had to get up to 20-22mg before I felt the satisfaction of vaping and lost any and all desire for a ciggie. I had one of those "realization" moments. I had 3 ciggies left! I smoked them, they were AWFUL!!! Blegh!!! I haven't picked up one since.
4. Don't stress about it. It's all good. You are in the right place, with the right people who have TONS of knowledge and experience. It's very doubtful that you have done anything they haven't seen or been through themselves. Don't be afraid to share. We are all here to help each other.
5. Realize, please, that you HAVE made a choice! You want to quit, else you wouldn't have started down this road. You will detox all that nasty krap out of your body (because you will have truly quit smoking), you will be able to breathe again, and your body will start healing itself. This all takes time. Forgive yourself, and keep on trucking :)

I need a daily plan. Something with mini-goals, that I can keep track of..are there any recommendations?

Should I first replace my more purposeful morning, after mealtime, before bedtime smokes with my e-cig?
Or should I first replace my more thoughtless smokes 'on the computer', first getting into the car, waiting for a train?

Should I try to replace 20% each day/week? 50%?

Sick of sitting on this fence! Overhealmed wihen visiting these forums.
I would like to be completely done with analogs in 1 or 2 weeks. Any suggestions?

I sat down and figured out how much I smoked on an average day and calculated the total nic intake. 1 pack of Newport was about 28mg of nic. so using the 20 drops = 1ml and filling my cart, vaping, topping off my cart and counting the drops to fill it and calculating in the level in the liquid I was using, I intentionally overshot the 28mg for a week. then I started to cut back at a comfortable pace. You should vape as needed to satisfy your craving. It is better IMO to vape more if you avoid analogs. You can worry about cutting back your nic levels later. The first goal is to get off of the analogs first.

I am 27 days smoke free. I am new to this, but here a couple of tips that may or may not help.

1-Be honest with yourself and analyze how, when and why you smoke. Knowing your triggers is helpful in defeating them.
2-Don't beat yourself up while working out what makes you want to get your vape on instead of getting your smoke on.
3-There is a learning curve and you need to give yourself time to adjust to it.
4-Pick the times of day you LOVE to smoke and don't give those up first.
5-Consider chain vaping. I constantly had the darn thing in my hand ready to go at a moments notice. I can put it down know without panicking, but that's only been with in the last couple of days.
6-if you're the type who needs a plan, set a quit date and calculate out how many cigarettes that gives you a day and space them out accordingly while keeping in mind your need to smoke times of the day. Then reduce the next day as needed.
7-Use a higher nic level when you get an intense craving and go back to something less for the pacifier effect.
8-Go into public buildings you'd NEVER dream of smoking in and even if you can't bring yourself to vape in the lobby, sneak your vape in the bathroom. Sometimes "getting away" with being able to vape where you can't smoke helps (just make sure it's not actually against the law to vape indoors where you're at first.)
10-think accessories. Visualize you're perfect vaping look and promise to get yourself that look once you've achieved 0 analogs.
11-Congratulate yourself often for small accomplishments. You have over 4000+ close chemical friends for a long time. It's difficult to give them up.
12-Don't give up. You'll get there.

Good luck and take care.

I'm back.

I really value all the advise, encouragement, points of view & feedback in this thread from experienced users & newbies too.

Sorry for dropping off the face of the earth! I've been crazy busy. Our move from Arizona to Jacksonville, FL move is complete (phew!), settled into new job, schools, etcetera & COMPLETELY READY TO STOP SMOKING!!!

Since I lost my ecig stick on New Year's Eve. I'm smoking analogs full time- and visualizing my digital e-cig success! I'm really juiced up & ready for this!

Today I'll order a new stick, NO make that 2 new sticks (backup lesson learned!). Put some fast shipping on it, and be living the dream!

Cheers!

Hi! DON'T FORGET (these are critical to your success):

*24mg e-liquid to refill

*Stay in touch on ECF! Just talking about it and looking at reviews of new fun vaping gizmos can occupy a lot of your "thinking about smoking" time PLUS: you may experience things that are frustrating, if you keep it to yourself you'll never discover that WE LIVED THAT and we can give you advice and techniques to get through it.

*vape BEFORE you smoke for about 10-15 minutes: if you still want to smoke, go ahead - you have permission as long as you tried to vape FIRST

*long slow easy inhales

AND (also good tips, but not critical to your success):

*vape all day, vape for fun: despite their best efforts, scientists have been unable to prove that vaping is bad for you in any way AND it may even be good for you! So think of it as guilt-free smoking!

*get some different flavors - you don't know what will work until you try it.

*vape in every possible place you can that you didn't/don't get to smoke (just because you can): bathtub/shower, movies, doctors office, non-smoker's car.... it's fun!

*don't beat yourself up for smoking a few cigs a week in the first month of vaping, the tobacco companies worked very hard to make them the most addictive drug device in the world - it's not your fault that they are good at their job. Only count the cigs that you didn't smoke.

YOU CAN DOOOO IT!

I would stick to this. Out of sight, out of mind.

I'm new to this vaping thing as well and just read this entire thread, hoping to absorb a few tricks and tips to apply to my own quitting journey/battle....waiting for all my goodies is definitely tough...I totally get the "stalking the mailman" phrase I've heard so often. I honestly have no clue how it's gonna work, but glad to know that everyone's success has been reached in different ways and there's no right/wrong way to do this.

The cleaning and detailing of the car really appeals to me - no more analogs in the car. I'd like to say no more in the house as well, but one step at a time. Hard to set any rules just yet w/o having any experience with my PV to guide me. Who knows...maybe I'll be like some of the lucky ones and start vaping and never look back :) *fingers crossed*

This thread will probably be one I'll return to again and again, not only to re-read the great advice given so far, any more advice given in the future, but also to keep up with my fellow new-to-vaping-wanna-quit-analog-ers.....I'm more stoked now than I have been so far about switching to vaping since I've read this thread and hope it and the rest ECF has to offer will keep my confidence high and my determination solid.

You guys rock!!

*BTW, good luck Jack!*

(Little more info on what I'm waiting for: Titan 510 starter kit - 1 batt, 1 atty, charger, 1 10ml/16mg juice, 3 empty carts; Riva 510 starter kit - 2 batts, 2 attys, charger, 10 empty carts, 1 cone; 5-pack Boge LR cartos; 15ml/18mg 555 juice; 15ml/18mg strawberry juice; 15ml/24mg spearmint juice)

Titan was ordered first...then realized one batt and one atty wasn't gonna cut it, and the larger batts w/ the Riva would be better, and the kit was cheaper than getting everything separate...plus another PV is always good, right? :)

Miss D, good choices. Really, for many of us, quitting cigs while vaping was pretty painless. You do have to want to do it. The biggest mistakes that I've seen are people getting too low nicotine, or too little power/battery life.
