Not just that, but is the material in the carts safe? Do we inhale any dust or fiber from those? I would not be eating some unknown concoction that comes in non-sealed bottles from China, yet I inhale it for hours a day....
I am betting everything on it being safer than smoking, although at least I know well the effects of smoking, and the time it usually takes to have its bad effects -while I don't even know that much about e-smoking. I hope that this conviction won't kill me....

Is it just me, or does it appear a nicotine-based liquid was not tested? I can't find nicotine among the ingredients even after zooming the text. This must be a non-nic liquid. And feeding mice PG stuff is not the same as having them inhale it. Besides, mice are not good test animals for inhaled chemicals. Only tested simians can give an indication of how we might react to an inhaled substance. To me, this test doesn't give me total confidence. Nice that it was done, but ...

In another thread there was a chemical analysis from a lab in Naples (written in Italian). It is very blurry, and it does not test vapor - only the chemicals in the filter (plus liquid, I assume, as the product is RY4), and the plastic casing. In the filter results, there is a section about carcinogenic chemicals (hydrocarbons), which amount to less than o.5 mcg, plus nicotine, which in this case was 3.38 mg.
The plastic filter casing contains quite a few metals (in micrograms-per-liter amounts), plus benzene, styrene, and others in trace amounts. I have no idea how much of this gets into us, and whether these quantities are dangerous.

Hi Cat, welcome to the forum.

There are a few areas of concern for us as far as chemicals and health are concerned. The composition of the eliquid and safeguards to avoid tainted ingredients, the make up of the cartridge fillers, the plastic components and bottles and the decay of the atomiser wicks. Unfortunately getting reliable information on these things is like pulling teeth, it's a painful experience. There either are no tests or existing test results are not made public.

You might find this thread interesting - http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...anufacturers-suppliers-whats-my-atomizer.html

I noticed that you have found TBob's thread on plastics already.

I don't really want this tested on animals. There's plenty of us that are already smoking the carts and eliquid. I'd rather it was tested on people, if it had to be tested on a living subject at all.

Many of us have taken the risk of smoking the e-cigs without waiting for really in depth testing. Personally I was smoking real cigs for nearly 30 years and knew about the risks that they caused so switching to e-smoking was (IMHO) something I saw as a lesser risk. We may find out that we're wrong but I can't see that the 3 or 4 main chemicals we are inhaling now are any more dangerous then the 400 we burnt before inhaling.

There may still be risks but I don't want animals to take that risk for me. I know that other people might disagree but if you've already made the decision to e-smoke then you're already an early test subject.

There is also the chance that differences in animals might mask effects that the process may have on humans. Even if it doesn't I don't like animal testing. I might be a hypocrite though as I eat them but I choose as humane a process as I can find and refuse factory farmed chickens for example.

I have pet rats so hate to think of what the poor sods are put through in the name of science. I'd test drugs on sex offenders before I did on animals, but that's me 8-o

I'm not expecting people to feel the same as me because I know that people have very different views on these issues. This is just how I feel.

I've been esmoking for about three and a half months, not long compared with some. I smoked about twelve roll ups after getting my ecig and then stopped completely.

My smokers cough has gone, I'm not so out of breath when I exercise, I don't feel as fatigued and am not as physically stressed.

I have had a few muscle aches but that's stopped, I had an irritated throat for a while but that's stopped too with different juice. Apart from that I haven't noticed much else different.

My skin seems to take a long time to heal from minor cuts at the moment but that could be nicotine or all the years of smoking or age related. It's something I hadn't noticed but that isn't to say it's new.

I've only just started about 10 days ago after 29 years of nearly 40 a day, smoked since I was 11. Sounds really bad that I've smoked 29 years and I'm not even 40 yet! (next month though :( )

I tried a real cig yesterday. My first in a week because I wanted to see if I was missing something. Well it tasted of nothing!, I only smoked about two to three drags before putting it out. I can't believe that after all those years I've turned my back on my long term friends :)

I'm already tasting more flavour in my food. Coffee, chocolate and cheese taste so much better. I can take a deep breath without coughing and my sense of smell seems stronger too.

How long have e-cigs been around? I'd hate to think I've been missing these for years. Did they just start to come into the UK via people visiting China and Chinese people visiting the UK?

It's nice to think that I'm in at the beginning of something thats possibly going to be a huge phenomenon. I really think that one of the tobacco companies will either start to attack e-smoking or release it's own version. I hope that the government won't add huge taxes but if they do I might try and make my own eliquid :p

As a test subject I think I'd be good. I've tried inhalators, micro-tabs, gum and going cold turkey. None lasted more then a few days. I ended up using the micro-tabs in places I couldn't smoke! With this I haven't even been close to returning to fags.
