Johnson Creek Red Oak Sampler Pack Review

Just got my sampler about a half hour and I'm vaping the Mercado right now. It's spicy but not overpowering, much more even and enjoyable than most clove juices I've bought from other places (which I plan to keep and mix with other tobacco bases). It tastes closer to a clove cigarette than anything I've found so far, but it's mellow enough to vape continuously.

I think I may have found my all-day juice here.

I just got mine today and have cracked into the Wisconsin Frost... It's definitely an interesting flavor with undertones of mint and some spices. I haven't decided yet if I like it though. The more I vape it though the more it is growing on me.

I do have a question though about the Swiss Dark... All of the juices were clear except for the Swiss Dark which was dark in color. I don't know if that's because of the flavoring used or if it's gone bad. It doesn't have a bad smell at all. Could you let me know if your Swiss Dark has a clear liquid or a darker colored liquid.

Mine was really dark, almost black.

I had only been buying JC original, Simply Strawberry, and Tennessee Cured since I started vaping in September last year. The regular PG stuff hurt my throat for days and the reduced PG was much better. To my surprise the reduce PG versions of my vaping staples aren't on the menu. I asked them what happened and within a few hours I got a reply they discontinued the reduced PG and introduced a no PG line of liquids called Red Oak.

While my goto vapes weren't there I figured, "well its no PG." so I ordered the sample pack. The delivery was received 2 days later the service as always was perfect. But... I am so disappointed. I couldn't stomache the Velencia. I dumped it after a single drop and it took forever to get the taste out of the atty. It reminded me of orange cough syrup that doesn't quite hide the taste of the medicine. I had to throw away the new cartridge because I couldn't get the smell out of it.

Soon to follow the Valencia down the drain was the Island, it tasted like a coconut Life Saver but I couldn't get past the smell. Several hours later I was still unsuccessful in getting the taste of coconut out of the atty I figured I'd try to flush it out with the domestic. This was a bad idea the combination nearly made me ill.

So I fired up a new atty with a few drops of the domestic and I am able to vape this so I will try it for the next few days. I still get reminded of the coconut/domestic collision with every drag. I hope I can get over it.

None of the other flavors appealed to me. I quit smoking analogs to get away from stinking up the house, among many other reasons, and the smells have permeated the entire apartment from just opening the bottles. My wife is threatening to open all the windows and its 25 degrees outside. I just hope the smell doesn't linger too long.

So the quest to replace my goto e-liquids has begun and I am not excited about it. Any suggestions for American based VG liquids?

I got my sampler a few days ago. First I tried the Wisconsin Frost. I was leery about ordering this I should have said first. I am usually only a tobacco type vapor. I never ever liked menthol cigarettes. I'm not into "tasty" type juices. However.....Wisconsin Frost...I love it! It's like chewing a really refreshing piece of gum, but never losing the taste......next was the domestic, I had heard people complain on here, it wasn't like their normal stuff, just tobacco, so that's what I expected. It's a little more than that, but it's fine.....tonite I really wanted some chocolate to eat. Now I ONLY like really dark chocolate...but trying to lose weight, so it occurred to me to try the Swiss Dark. It tastes just like expensive very dark chocolate, I mean expensive (not Hershey's),the Swiss Dark was exactly that. Absolutely wonderful for someone who doesn't want sweet, but very dark chocolate and not a cheapy at that. Great. I've already decided before I read this that I'm not trying the Island. Too too sweet smelling. If I can't get past the smell, I'm sure not going to taste it. I've been putting off tasting the Mercado and Valencia. Reading this, I've decided to taste the Mercado and give it a chance. I'm still wavering on tasting the Valencia, but probably will because of these posts. By the way, my Swiss Dark is very very dark, I think it's meant to be. So thumb up completely on Wisconsin Frost and Swiss Dark, both a shock to me, but great! I'll admit, while vaping the Swiss Dark, I even started worrying about calories, that good. Domestic, okay, probably won't buy, just because I've found better at cheaper prices. Any other chocolate i've tasted i have been reminded more of milk chocolate - not for me. Am now looking forward to at least trying the Mercado, and probably will try Valencia. Absolutely can't face the Island, have heard it compared to some fancy drink, can't remember what, and I'm a whiskey kinda gal.

Wanted to add something, since you all seem to have at least occasionally use JC...I have never had an atty ruined by it. I've even seen where some think it's thick, while I think just the opposite. So I just wondered whether you've had problems? I will say tonite, after tasting two very different flavors, I'm cleaning my atty's with boiling water method, which i usually only do on Sundays. This is just to get the taste out. But i truly have not had atty problems. Maybe it's because i do clean them once a wk??? Got me.

My first JC order came in today and... I'm impressed. I have a feeling some of the difference must be up to hardware issues. So note that the m402 with auto batteries is proving to be my weapon of choice and the KR808D-1 is sort of a backup/'cigar.'

Got the 18mg Red Oak sampler, 18mg Island, 18mg Tennessee Cured and 24mg Peach. So far I've tried the Marcado, Island, Tennessee and Peach. It went something like this:

Got home, unwrapped the goodies, ended up rinsing out the cart on the m402 and trying some Marcado to start. *Wow, wow, wow.* First time I've had 'full' flavor out of the m402. Very 'spice cake' (and I just shot them a favorable review, since I was afraid to go for a full bottle of that for some reason)... not quite 'clove' (it tastes more like a holiday than cloves, though I'm not sure exactly which one), but definitely worth a try if you like them. A sweetness like the 'rum' on the end of a clove was apparent from the start... for my tastes it was perfectly sweet but not cloying at all. This has a good chance of becoming my 'usual'.. It's tasty, it's got more than one note to it, and it's no more frufru than a cup of earl grey.

Meanwhile, the cap on the Island had leaked a couple drops and left the entire package smelling faintly of it... I'm leery of 'artificial' coconut (one of the things that put me off trying ecigs was that I was sure they were all going to taste like that cold artificial-coconut-flavored theatrical fog I used to choke on during assemblies back in grade school.. rest assured, they don't) and this reeked of it, ugh. I think the 'piña colada with a cigar and other stuff' description suckered me in, since I figured there might've been an interesting complexity there... to spoil the big reveal: nope, it's 100% piña colada to me. Still, despite being nauseated by the smell, I was feeling adventurous, and ended up having the inverse of someone else's experience.. crammed into an unrinsed cartomizer with the KR808 (previously loaded with 'virginia', and no way I was going to taint my only m40x atomizer), once it was warmed up as vapor it tasted like... well, a perfectly pleasant, not particularly artificial, warm piña colada. This might make a fun novelty cigar-type load in the 808 with some rum drinks, but I probably won't be reaching for it / will be treating it like a hazmat otherwise. The higher heat of the KR808 may have helped it, and I'll have to get in a weird mood before it touches the m402.

So... wasn't really up for sucking much hot coconut juice out of the still-settling cartomizer, so went back to the m402 with its used-up marcado cartridge and dripped a quarter drop of Tennessee Cured on the atomizer wick to taste - seemed kind of 'dry' and tobaccoey at that point, maybe a little overpoweringly cigar-ish...

I'm not sure quite what I did from there, but I ended up with a m402 cart filled up with the Tennessee stuff and topped off with 3 or 4 drops of Peach. I'm going to need a clean cartridge to really taste the peach properly on its lonesome, but the Tennessee really started to 'open up' into coffee flavors - sort of like coffee with a splash of liquid coffeemate, in fact, a little sweet, a little vanilla, 'creamy' in that way - and it lasted through an entire battery fresh off the charger (couldn't help myself there). The 'this is going to wreck my throat like a cigarillo' feeling went away, and the phrase 'monster vapor' really applied... at first I was uncertain, but by the end I was thinking 'hey, this is better than tobacco.' Maybe this one gets 'burnt' or overwhelming in a hotter atomizer? ...the kind of hotter atomizer it takes to liberate the flavor from the import juices? Or maybe the trick is to add that bit of peach... the other battery is done charging, I think more experimentation is called for...

The biggest contribution from the peach thus far is that getting it in the higher nicotine gave me what I'd been missing. Since starting this adventure Monday when my hardware arrived (by the end of the day Monday I knew I was going to be able to keep it up), I'd been astounded I was tolerating it so well.. that gave me the confidence to put in the JC order, and between the flavor and the higher nicotine (highest Dekang in my starter pile is 16mg, and I guess this proves it wasn't quite doing it), now I'm 100% convinced I'm enjoying it... I think I just had my 'who needs smoking?' moment!

...of course, I'll be curious to see if the regular Dekang flavors start coming through more as my senses recover, it's only been five days. JC gets the points for flavor right now, and longevity in the cartridge - I think one load of this just might last a whole workday - 4 or 5 breaks, the way I roll - in the 40x.

[Until I can pop in a sig, I'm moving from half a pack of Winston Lights a day, those down from Reds recently only to escape the health effects, and on bupropion since years before that. I wish everyone would post what they transitioned from down here, it'd make interpreting ideas of 'strength' a lot easier...]

I received the Johnson Creek Red Oak sampler pack VG liquid.

Island flavor- believe it or not I actually liked this flavor despite what others have said. It does taste like a pina colada. So if that is not your thing it's not for you. strong flavor, good vapor and decent throat hit.

Domestic flavor- has a slight tobacco flavor with a smoky spicy taste to it. Smell similar to cedar. I didn't care for it, but my boyfriend absolutely loves it.
strong flavor, good vapor, decent throat hit

Marcado- reminds me of smoking a chai tea latte. It is hard to get this flavor out of your atty.
strong flavor, good vapor, weak throat hit

Valencia- very spicy orange taste. This was too spicy for me personally.
Strong flavor, good vapor, decent throat hit

Dark Swiss- tastes similar to real hot cocoa but wasn't that strong. maybe my taste buds are still shot  It also seemed to clog my atty.
med flavor, good vapor, weak throat hit

Wisconsin Frost- very mild taste of mint. Flavor wasn't strong enough for me.
mild flavor, good vapor, weak throat hit.

So top 2 for me were island and domestic. Everyone seems to have different tastes so try it out for yourself and enjoy. I do love that the VG liquids do not make my throat sore and hurt like the PG does. Drinking lots of water does help.

Johnson Creek shipped fast and great customer service. They let me return the 15ml dark swiss I had ordered with no problem at all.

Happy Vaping Everyone:cool:
